When we needed one for a second opinion during the sale of our home @sarahzm had a guy that she highly recommended. I don't have his name or info, but maybe she can direct you to him.
Im sorry, the person I recommended had retired so he sent a colleague who did great job. Unfortunately, I can not find the colleagues name. If I come across it I will share it.

Harry Braich is the structural engineer that we used. Name of company is Apex Group. I can post his phone number for you when I get home in about an hour.

We used him, too. I'm no expert judge, but we were happy with his work.
ETA: That was five years ago, and it appears the web address we had is no longer active. The number we had was 732-302-9866 or 1-888-380-9222.
idk, do you really need a structural engineer? They seem very hard to find and get a hold of.
The architect I posted above is trained in engineering, did all the load calculations etc for the steel beams and masonry walls needed for the job at my house. And the town approved his blue prints.
Perhaps some architects are more pure design than structure?
I second peteglider's comment.
As to my recommendation, Majewski's proposal was reviewed and approved by construction official before work commenced and approved on inspection after completion. Besides coming up with a plan, Majewski will be able to refer you several contractors he can recommend.
why don't you call and ask them often architects will consult with structural engineers when they don't have the expertise. Most architects actually do not perform calculations everything they do is empirical or specified in the code especially for residential construction. For a retaining wall, you definitely need somebody with expertise.

Hello, I am seeking a consulting Structural Engineer to design permanent bracing for a basement wall that is cracking under lateral load of uphill retained earth. Anyone have a recommendation?
