Springsteen to tour ... archived

www.brucespringsteen.net reports ...

Well, things are starting to heat up down on E Street.

A lot of you have been hearing that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be on tour in 2012. That is absolutely correct. The European dates run from the middle of May until end of July and are being announced this week. Info on the US dates and the World tour dates will coming up shortly.

In addition, we want you to know that the music is almost done (but still untitled), we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet), and that we are all incredibly excited about everything that we're planning for 2012. That's all the info we have for right now, but we'll get back to you — real soon.

Discuss.

Finally the rumors can stop! Unlike the last album which was written while on tour, he's had two years to perfect this one. So I'm expecting something good. I know it obviously wont be his best, but at least Rising quality I hope...

How do you think he'll replace Clarence? My bet is on a full horn section. My wish is that he strips down the band to the way it was in the 70's and just hires another sax player. Obviously the stage show will never be the same without Clarence, but the music still can be.

Rockin' good news!

Badscooter, I'm with you. The last couple of albums were good, not great, and way too many (which means more than one) songs that I skip. Would love to see something along the lines of The Rising.

Now my question is: Who's in?

I have no hopes of the new album being any good ... Let's play a little game I call "Devils, Magic & Dreams" ... Your missions, should you choose to accept it is to come-up with a decent LP using cuts from the last three Springsteen efforts ... Ready? GO!

Now, about the tour, what I'd like to see is ONLY E Streeters ... Strip it down to who's left ... Bruce, Steve, Gary, Roy, Max ... That's it. No sax solos ... No background singers ... No Patti! Let's get back to the bar band roots ...

Here's what I came-up with ... (Alphabetical order)

Girls In Their Summer Clothes
The Hitter
I'll Work For Your Love
Jesus Was An Only Son
Long Time Comin'
Long Walk Home
My Lucky Day
Radio Nowhere
Working On A Dream
The Wrestler

For Soul 29:

Devils Arcade
Gypsy Biker
The Hitter
Kingdom Of Days
Leah
Long Walk Home
Maria's Bed
Terry's Song
What Love Can Do
The Wrestler

I am willing to bet that Queen of the Supermarket will NOT make anyone's list ...

I would also like to include Terry's Song as my hidden bonus track ...

oooofffff that one was ripe.

I think The Rising is up there w/ some of the classics.
I also think Magic was a strong album.

That last one I tried so hard to like.
but....

Anyway.
I don't think they will have a sax player this tour.
You heard it here first.

I don't have Devils and Dust, and was hard-pressed to come up with a set list (outside of about six songs) from Magic and Working on a Dream.

In 2009, I was at two Bruce shows at Giants Stadium, and not one song from Magic was performed. Unfortunately, at both shows, Outlaw Pete was played. Man, that song is painful.

I LOVE the idea of no Patti.

Opening an album with a nine minute song, proved to me he needed to find his muse again.
Maybe he need to go back to that Gym in Red Bank......I'm just sayin

A nine minute song that was no Jungleland, that's for sure!

(Btw, I used to go to that gym in Red Bank.)

For some reason I have a feeling that its gonna be a great album. He's doing a world tour for the first time in 10 years. Also, rumors are that he'll be playing Israel for the first time.

I think the world tour is one last time around the track and one more BIG trip to the bank ... I don't begrudge him either ... But I have no reason to believe that the album will be anything more or less than the last three efforts ...

Believe me the last thing he needs is one more big trip to the bank. I mean it could just be wishful thinking, but the last time he had more than a year off to work on an E Street band album was Born In The USA. I don't think it's gonna be as that, but I think we're in for a good one.

I wish I had your optimism. In my opinion, The Rising was Bruce's last great studio album (caveat: for whatever reason, I don't have Devils and Dust, so I can't really speak to it), so the best I am hoping for is a handful of decent songs that he will then play live. I'd have no objection to a tour during which no post-Rising song was even played, but that's just me.

Also? I have to believe it's not about the money at this point. If it's a world tour in the making, I'd wager it's the last one.

He's done, c'mon. He can't play the 'common people' card when he's using the same tax loophole as Christie Whitman for farming a portion of his estate in Colt's Neck, no matter how much food he encourages others to give to the food bank.

You do realize he gives a lot to each of those food banks himself. And you really think he's done? Go on youtube and watch videos from his two shows with Joe Grushecky earlier this month. Here's a couple...

This one was amazing:

Springsteen is a long way from done as a live performer ... And his track-record as an advocate for the hungry in NJ cannot be questioned ... He has given-away millions to various causes over the years ... Most of this has been donated "under the radar" ... I am looking forward to the live shows, but, no, don't hold out much hope for a "great" record ...

there's a politics section on MOL for that stuff.

we saw one of the last shows of the last tour at MSG, and it was a great, great performance. it's not the same as when he (and we) were younger of course. do we really still expect it to be? it's good for what it is now. and regarding the next record, it depends on who he's working with as producer and what they want it to sound like. for my taste, I'd prefer it more stripped down, fewer harmony vocals, less strings, just the basic E Street sound of guitars, drums, keyboards. but I think that ship has sailed, I'm afraid. for whatever reason, Bruce seems to be chasing some lost Beach Boys album that he's hearing in his head.

but I'm sure the shows will be great regardless of what the album is.

Same hypocrisy as his drummer, who bought a beautiful forest on the Navesink River-then carved out lots-after sitting on the local conservation group board. After agreeing to a subsequent deed restriction, he came back with an application to have that relieved! You can't make this stuff up.

Hey, johnlockedema ... Look ... "My thread" and, as ML said, this ain't politics, so why not just move along ... Thanks.

Sure, I made my point-although this is MOL, land of the thread drift! Out!
