FIOS service upgrade - saving money

Not sure if I should start a seperate thread but I have Optimum and they offered me an upgrade for less money if I switched to Altice. What a nightmare. I'm rebooting frequently. The mini box downstairs has audio issues. Sound goes out so I find when I hit mute and then volume it goes back. Sometimes it's every half hour. 

The main box sometimes freezes so I need to reboot and my laptop drops connection telling me "no networks" or seems to be looking at the mini box for a connection. 

Lost connection from my computer to my printer for days. Tried a million fixes for days. Then a few days later I got it going.

My phone used to break up near the mini box, now anywhere in this fortress of a house.  Trying to give my dentist the pharmacy number was challenging.

And it is impossible to speak to a living soul. Half hour waits with robotic messages until I give up. No help on live chat.

I thought of switching to FIOS but after this thread, I'm thinking I'm just stuck in quarantine slowly losing contact with the outside world.

Farewell cyber friends. If you have a solution to offer, please post, before I lose access to all things outside the castle.


Check out Get a Human for how to contact Optimum/Altice. They can fix some things remotely.

Getting a Verizon FIOS rep is difficult as well but we have been happy with the service. The challenging part for you will be that you need installation if you switch and I’m not sure they’re doing them right now.


Fios has been good for us.  I had to go through retention to keep.our deal, but it works well.

 Went to get a human and seems there is still a problem with Optimum Altice. The responses posted were exactly what happened to me. Just recording and no answer. I tried for 2 hours today. Also bought a new phone and tried it today with the same breaking up.

Then I tried my cell phone which worked the other day, called T Mobile to see if I could get a cheaper service and the same problem My cell dropped the call and the rep called back twice and said it was breaking up.

So neither a cell works now or the Altice land line.

If you are OK with going out, the T-Mobile store at 276 Central Avenue in Orange is fully functional.  I was there on Thursday. 

They are practicing social distancing, limiting those in the store, and have sanitizer on all the desks.

We've been well satisfied with FIOS service. Have had it for many years. In the "old" days we sometimes encountered glitches, but in recent years problems have been few and far between.
