It might have shut down from heat. I can't rule out some malware, but it's hard to say.
I'm in an air conditioned house.
Another thing I forgot to mention in the OP: When I re-logon to all my sites, they all say that I am logging on from a device they don't recognize! What's that all about? My laptop and my phone are the ONLY devices I use.
Since the system shutdown ungracefully, you appear to have lost your cookies from your browser, which is why the sites don't recognize you. That part is easy to explain. I can't explain what caused the shutdown.
Loose battery connection? Was it like the power just cut at once, or did it go through a shut down sequence?
When you restarted, you restarted on battery power?

Just cut at once. As if there was a power loss. But the battery was at 90%. I did not have it connected to an electrical outlet. I restarted it on battery.
yeah I saw the 90% comment which made me wonder if there was a bad or dirty battery contact.
I know you're in an air-conditioned house but the internal components can get really hot if not adequately ventilated or the little cooling fan inside is not running. Is the underside of the laptop getting hot?

The underside is a bit warmer than the top, but it's not hot. I move around a lot. When I'm not using it, it's on a cool surface.
its a good idea to go ahead and change your passwords ( and make sure you still have all your money in the bank!)

So, I was working on my laptop. It had 90% battery power. I had several tabs open in chrome (gmail, calendar, a few other outside client email accounts, a google sheet, facebook, etc.). Excel and Word also were open. I was updating a Google Sheet, when suddenly my computer just shut down. Completely.
I restarted my laptop and started reopening all my apps. I was LOGGED OUT of every, single app. Google, Facebook, MOL, client email accounts, EVERYTHING.
What happened??
