Solar Eclipse Glasses

Does anyone know where to buy glasses to watch the Solar Eclipse? Everyone seems to be sold out.

I have a couple to spare. I paid $5. each.

P.M. me but I will be away for the weekend.

Some are still available on Amazon, but they are going fast and prices are going up. The UPS Store in SO had them, but I think sold out. I heard Shenanigans in Maplewood has some, but not sure if they only have kids versions?

OK. I sent you a PM

Check with @doulamomma.  She had some recently that she was sharing, but I don't know if they are all now spoken for.

I exchanged PMs with Formerlyjerseyjack but do not see that exchange in my Conversations.

Why would that be? Can someone help?

Lost:  I sent you a PM as a test.  Please reply to my message and I will let you know if I received it.  My message to formerlyjerseyjack was sent to him.  I have yet to receive a reply.

Joan,

I saw I had 15 messages when before I had 14. I went to Messages, saw yours, and replied and got a message that I had successfully replied.

BUT now I do not see your PM or my reply and it says I have only 14 messages!!!!

I found my mistake. I just wasn't looking in the right place.

I Must be getting old. oh oh

Saw some in the Union Lowe's last weekend

I called the Union Lowes. They were all out.

Just in case one is glasses-less on the day of : (These snippets are taken from www.nasa.gov and sites it directs you to)

Don’t look directly at the sun when any part of its bright face is still visible. Whether you are in the line of totality or outside of it, never look at the sun without proper solar filters during the partial phases of the eclipse.

Do wear eclipse glasses. The only safe way to view the eclipse during its partial phases is to wear eclipse filters. THIS IS IN CASE YOU FIND THEM: Glasses that meet the proper international safety standards should have a certification of ISO 12312-2.

You can easily and safely observe the Sun by projecting it through a tiny hole onto a white sheet of paper. This simple device is called a "pinhole camera". You'll need:

  • 2 sheets of stiff white paper
  • A pin
  • A sunny day
  • Perhaps a friend to help

With the pin, punch a hole in the center of one of your pieces of paper. Go outside, hold the paper up and aim the hole at the Sun. (Don't look at the Sun either through the hole or in any other way! ) Now, find the image of the Sun which comes through the hole. Move your other piece of paper back and forth until the image looks best. What you are seeing is not just a dot of light coming through the hole, but an actual image of the Sun!

Sorry to say, my Cranford observatory, William Sperry at Union County College, sold out of glasses last night or I would have been happy to oblige folks.  Hope this info helps anyway.

We got a pair today at the toy store in the center of Summit.

B&H Photo in the city still has them.

Our Son, DIL and Grand daughter will be visiting us here in NC at the time the eclipse. While we are not in the path of totallity, we will have a partial 93%.  Thinking and acting ahead, I ordered 3 pairs from Amazon about a month ago and they arrived 2 days later. All set.....I thought.... Yesterday, I received this email from Amazon:

Soooooooooo.....I'll play it safe and not use them.  Not much hope of getting replacements that are properly certified at this point. Meanwhile,  I've found  several ways to project the eclipse on a large white cardboard  sheet, which will be fun..

Bummer for you, but good on Amazon for following up on this.

Yikes, waxwingstwo, did they have any "certified" icons on them at all?  Btw, was in the city today, and B&H photo was out, as was the American Museum of Natural History.  Both "expecting" shipments mid-week, which most people think will never happen. Hope I'm wrong....

Ordered some on Amazon last Wednesday, they arrived on Friday.

Lost --- Do you still need them? Nevermind... I got your P.M. and will call you.
