So NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal is really white?

This is kooky and fascinating! Many blacks "passed" as whites to live free, secure jobs, etc., but this woman seems to have done the opposite. She has "passed" for being black for many years now and according to her parents, who are white, Rachel began to "disguise herself" around 2006/7.

Ms. Dolezal is Spokane's NAACP Chapter President and part-time Africana Studies professor at Eastern Washington University, and, according to her parents, has been misleading people about her ethnicity for years.

Her parents state their ethnicity as Czech, Swedish and German. In photos provided by Rachel's family, you CAN see a definite transformation from white girl/woman to black woman, albeit a light skinned black woman.

She's being investigated by an ethics probe because she listed her ethnicity as black (and American Indian) in order to serve on a local city commission.

Someone's been watching too much Soul Man. Or rather, not enough.

yes Soul Man... Weird story.

I imagine she has to get her hair permed to achieve this - I'm surprised one could require such transformative salon work without being noticed

Somewhere I read that she is a hair-styling "expert". Maybe she perms it herself?

C'mon. That's a wig.

I'm surprised at you MOL. If Ms. Dolezal identifies herself as African American who are we to.........

Cant even get it all out. This is the most bat-crap crazy thing I've heard in years.

If we can embrace transgender people, shouldn't we also embrace trans-racial people?

That might also mean we have to embrace Iggy Azalea.

I agree. As a matter of fact I think the police should go over to her house, drag her out in the street and beat the hell out of her right now. She deserves equal treatment.

That was actually my first thought

as long as she's unarmed

I guess, "once you go Black, you never go back", until you're caught. LOL!

"On a Facebook post dated 14 January, 2015, the Spokane NAACP branch identifies Doležal's father as a black man who she is posing with in a photo and announced he would be attending an event with her."

Someone needs to check into this further to make sure it isn't just James O'Keefe in a mixed-race woman suit.

I read both articles. I absolutely "love" that her parents dispute her claims that she was born in a tepee. They say, 'Totally false,' said her mother. She and Dolezal's father once lived in a tepee but it was before Dolezal was born." And then to the claim that she lived in South Africa, they said, 'Rachel did not even ever visit us there,' said Ruthanne, who lived there as a missionary.

She and they have led an interesting life... I wonder what estranged them...

Sigh.

So how long will conservative pundits hang on to this as an excuse to ridicule and dismiss the NAACP?

Wow... that is just bizarre.

Fer Shizzel.

Perhaps the NAACP needed to fill some quotas?

Could just be good weave. I've seen magic worked in the salon.

Its almost painful to watch. After he shows her the picture she is like a deer in headlights.

This might help explain a little. http://www.12news.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/06/11/spokane-naacp-president-questions/71101474/ She apparently claims a legal dispute with her parents for siding with her sister against an older brother. Her parents also apparently adopted some children who were black though it does not say in the article which siblings these are.

Bizarre to say the least.

Thank you, irvingtonpirate. Curiouser and curiouser.

I once knew of a woman who said she was "black by injection" -- maybe that's the case with her (like @phenixrising said)? Regardless, I'm laughing about this all day. I can't even feel sad for her.

Jezebel described this story as "the circus that was wrapped in a trainwreck and dipped in a forest fire." Other than that, words fail.

Not that it should matter.

Just shows the distorted ethos of the left and its identity politics.

It says nothing about the left. If the story is true, it is about one wacko who doesn't represent any large group because she is a wacko.
