There is a slight chance of wintery mix (rain mixed with snow or sleet) this afternoon (Tuesday) and evening.

The NWS has upped the forecast for our area, but we are still west of the core of the storm today.

Expect 1" - 3" starting shortly and running most of the day. Snowfall could be moderate at times.

There is a potential upside if the storm track shifts west or banding develops.

You can see on the map what a near miss this is for us:

Thanks Max!

Hey, I'm going to be driving from Valley to the Parkwood for breakfast in about an hour. Should I bring my own eggs or do you think they'll have enough? Should I wait until Tuesday? I'm worried I might starve by then.

Thanks!

Pete has them flown in daily from Greece. They are produced on the plane and delivered with in hours of being

ready Fish are also equally fresh. Avoid the individual pizza's

max, I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's a good layman's weather site?

I just tried WU and the whole web experience was kinda sucky. It's clunky to use. What's better?

And I'm driving to South River today, south of New Brunswick. Is the snow better or worse that way?

Snow has been fairly heavy for a while in Maplewood. Max, are you still sticking to the 1"-3" forecast?

Roads are slippery. Had some difficulty stopping on multiple corners on Valley and Milburn.

Worse closer to the coast, south, and east.

On way back main streets were better because they are actively salting but less major streets still slick.

Thanks, Max, as always!!

Hope everyone got the message: Township and county have declared a snow emergency. Stay off the roads if you possibly can.

Maplewood has issued a Snow Emergency. Does "No parking permission will be granted for the entire Township" mean no one can park in the street anywhere? We have a show at the Burgdorff tonight and we were wondering if this means no one can park anywhere in town.

The list of streets on this alert is confusing.

While the worst of the snowfall is over, it will continue snowing until early evening, tapering off between 4:00 and 6:00. North to northwest winds will cause some blowing and drifting, and some already cleared roads may need to be treated again. Total snowfall today will be between 2 - 4", the snow is very light and has a high 'fluff factor' (I swear that is the scientific term -- I lifted it from the NWS forecast discussion!)

Tonight it will clear, with temps in the high teens, tomorrow in the 20s, so this one will not melt away like the last one but at least it should be easy to shovel.

By tomorrow the roads should be clear but watch for icy patches.

ETA with the chance of a few squalls like the one that popped up from nowhere as soon as I posted that the worst was over. meh!

@ridski I can't speak officially, but I think it applies to exceptions to overnight parking rules. Otherwise I think they would say parking was suspended.

The listed streets have parking suspended, and cars need to be removed right away.

@ridski The streets listed are designated snow emergency streets used by emergency vehicles. ETA: They are also on very steep hills.

I would strongly suggest calling the non-emergency phone number for the police department, explaining the situation and asking for guidance. It may be that a number of events for this evening will be canceled as a result of the timing of this storm.

Some of the roads are very slippery. Especially some of the hilly ones.

Good day for cocoa and TV.

driving south was not great a coupla hours ago. Streets and highways were all slippery, some more than others.

Yeah, stay home if you can.

And wear pants. No shorts today.

Saw a dude in shorts and a sweatshirt earlier going into CVS.....it had been snowing for hours... WTF is up with that?

I wonder if it was drummerboy. He's been resisting long pants for a while now.

Hardy spouse just came to WO on 280 and said road was surprisingly not so good, and a lot of cars slipping on local roads.

Roads are deteriorating, after improving earlier.

So when's good time to shovel? Looks like it's going to snow a couple more hours?

NWS sees the back side of it in an hour, but the radar and the short-range models disagree.

I think the heavier rate will fall off over the next hour, but snow will keep falling into the early evening, ending between 7:00 and 9:00

I don't see any plows. Where are they?

I saw a plow making several passes on Courter Avenue when I was out shoveling a narrow path for church goers tomorrow.

The back end of the snow is finally moving out. flurries or light snow will continue for a while, but there should not be much more accumulation.

Cold tonight, clearing skies tomorrow.
