Does anyone know if it is safe to walk in with your documents or if you need a motor vehicle to participate?

Can South Orange residents use?
I just checked the town website and it says "open to Maplewood residents only" and says proof of residency will be required.

very cool. thank you both for checking.
That being said, I’ve never experienced any residency check at any of these events.
How are the lines this time? The last couple of times it was a very long wait, so when one of the businesses in Maplewood Village did this a few weeks ago, I took my shred box over there.
I went to the SO DPW around 9:15. No residency check, and I was heading home in less than 2 minutes.
For those who lamented the understandable cancellation of Maplewood's "Shred-It" day in April, here's another chance, along with tires.
(PS - If anyone decides to go, I have just one box I would love to send along with someone who is making the trip anyway.)
I had also posted this on Facebook and a friend saw it there and is going to take my box - hurray!
Just got back from this. No line when we were there. If you have a decent pile of possibly sensitive docs you want to be rid of, get over there.
From the township e-list notice - Shred-it Day is this Saturday, October 17th.
Shred-It Day is an opportunity for Maplewood residents to shred any personal paper items such as legal documents, private records and files, books, etc. The event will be held at the Maplewood Recycling Center, located at 359 Boyden Ave. as follows:
October 17, 2020 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, or until the truck fills up, whichever occurs first.
** In order to better accommodate our residents, we will provide two shredding trucks at each event. **
THIS SERVICE IS STRICTLY FOR MAPLEWOOD RESIDENTS ONLY
Please be prepared to show a government issued photo ID and proof of residency.

Unfortunately I did not see this until today.
If you subscribe to township emails, you will get notification. Also, they generally have them on a Saturday in April and October each year, so you can look out for notice about that time.
Today is the day for Spring 2022 in Maplewood - at the DPW yard until noon or the truck fills up.
I missed the notice too. Luckily we had some already prepared that I loaded in the car.
I think many missed the notice so the line was exceptionally short.
This must cost the town some dollars, yet they don't send me a preparatory memo until 7 PM the night before. Didn't pick up the memo until too late. Somebody flubbed the dub.

They are typically scheduled twice a year - in April and October. I've learned to check the town website and put them on my calendar. This year, the fall date is October 15. https://www.twp.maplewood.nj.us/government/public-works/shred-it-day
The Fall 2022 Maplewood Shred-it day is tomorrow, October 15th!
