Seth Boyden Principal Resigning

Received letter home stating the principal will be leaving. Can't say I am surprised. I wonder who the new principal will be. Uggh. The school is going downhill right before my eyes.

Not surprised - years ago a neighbor’s child was bullied so harshly there that they had to be put into private school for their own protection...

MY MISTAKE - bullying was at Marshall’s

FWIW: This is Seth Boyden's new principal. It is only his second year.

MY MISTAKE - my above post (bullying) took place at Marshall

As a principal I liked him very much, but I also deplore his actions towards a teacher attempting to balance work and family. It is hard because I have such conflicting feelings.

Though we’re moving, I do hope they find someone with a similar vision for the school as I do like what they are doing there and want to see them succeed even if we will no longer be a part of it.

I have no qualms about his resignation. It’s a law and he broke it.

 I'm aware he's the latest.

I'm actually sad to see him go, breastfeeding issue aside, he was young energetic and looked like he enjoyed his job as well as the students. Loved how he stood outside in the morning and was one of the last to leave in the afternoon. Ah well.

Based on the reported incident, he's a major liability for the district.  I'd rather see him leave than get sued by employees that have had their workplace rights violated.

Anyone know what happened to the bigot at Marshall?

Kind of sad that we no longer allow people to learn from their mistakes and be better people.

There are "mistakes" and there is violating the law.

And this wasn't his first "mistake."

I would agree, but this happened and he was told to correct it.  It then happened a second time after he had been told to stop.

I'm hearing on FB that there is more to the story.  I'm not on SOMa Lounge (too mean and cutthroat for my tastes) so I don't know if there is more info there.  Does anyone have any additional information on this?

I know a teacher that worked with him in NYC - he was a major jerk there, as well. She was not surprised that it caught up with him in SOMA.

What about the rumor that Bonita Samuels will be moved to Seth Boyden as principal? Supposedly this is coming from SOMEA. Does anyone know how true this is?  This leads to two questions, 1) if she is fit to lead then why isn’t she staying at her old school Marshall, and 2) if she isn’t fit to lead then why is she being put at Seth Boyden

This is sad to read, but thank you for sharing this. I like the guy, but I don’t want to be blinded by that and ignore real staff issues.

I guess that one possible explanation may be that he is so invested in the kid’s education that he expects everyone to go above and beyond, to the point of creating a hostile work environment for faculty and staff.  While the reason (if my guess is even correct) might be for a good cause, it doesn’t excuse abusing staff.

It's certainly possible. She's an administrator employed by the district. If the Board decides that she has been through the appropriate disciplinary review then she could be reassigned to a different school. Seth Boyden will need a principal next year so that could be a reasonable approach in the opinion of the Board.

It's not the job of SOMEA, so I'm not sure how they would know.

Samuels is NOT being named the new head of SB.

Wait, is this a statement of fact? I am curious how you know this. Was there some kind of official statement?

I'm not trying to challenge any knowledge you might have on this, I'm just looking for clarification.

Apparently the district confirmed this today (not sure by press release or in response to inquiries).

It’s my understanding that he did not provide a place for a nursing employee to pump during the day?  Am I wrong?  I also heard that said employee developed mastitis as a result. Is my information incorrect?

If I’m correct, he broke the law. Additionally, that behavior is beyond the pale.

This email went out via school messenger:

---------------------------------

Dear Seth Boyden Community,

We are committed to recruiting a strong, talented and compassionate educational leader to serve as the next Seth Boyden Principal.  We plan to begin our search this week, and hope to begin interviews in June.

Once the posting has concluded, we will convene an Interview Committee, which generally consists of:

  • 1 ASCA representative
  • 1 SOMEA representative
  • 1 Guidance Counselor/Social Worker
  • 1 Parent
  • 1 Building administrator
  • 1 Regular education teacher
  • 1 Special Education teacher/CST member/etc.

After an initial screening from the Human Resources Department, the Interview Committee will meet with a diverse pool of applicants and select up to 3 candidates to recommend for further consideration, including an interview with the Superintendent.

Times of transition can be unsettling. The District is committed to designing and implementing a transition plan to ensure that Seth Boyden continues to provide a warm, collaborative, and inspiring learning environment for all students and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Ficarra Interim Superintendent

Very strong support for Mr. Frye at tonight’s BOE meeting.

Suzanne Turner confirmed this.
