Senate Budget Deal

McConnell and Schumer  have reached a deal. Now it's up to Ryan and Pelosi.

Just kicking the can (or multiple cans) down the road....

It's a two-year deal.

"Congressional leaders clinched a two-year deal to lift strict budget caps on defense and domestic spending, putting an end to a series of short-term spending bills and shutdown fights that have defined Washington the past few months".

Yes, but they are adding another $300 billion over two years in spending and ignoring the debt ceiling.  It should be fun in two years when the deal runs out.  Dems and Republicans get to brag about their deal for the 2018 midterms while we foot the bill.

yep, basically a political push and we get hit a bit.  But to some extent I guess this IS how the process is sorta supposed to work nonetheless.

So what happened about the wall and dreamers? Wasn't immigration supposed to be part of the deal?

Nancy Pelosi says Dems won't support it without promise from Ryan to hold vote on DACA. The "conservative" Freedom Caucus will not support this budget deal so they need Dem votes. Dems say put DACA up to vote and it will pass, but usually Speaker Ryan will not put something up for vote unless he has a majority of Republicans in support.

Ryan has a majority without the Freedom Caucus.  And if has the spine to do the vote on the dreamers/immigration, he could use it as a teaching moment to the Freedom Caucus on how to get things done with bi-partisan support.

bipartisan spending bills always pass.  And Trump is a spender as well, but does not understand that the gov't can't just declare bankruptcy and walk away.

I thought Ryan recently said that if a bill was dropped on him that Trump supported, he’d put it out there?

Oh, and Rand Paul is an *******.

He's just showing off his new toupee.

This light be true given the lack of logic and consistency in his drivel otherwise.

Most biblical typo ever?

LOL.  I’m leaving it.

Rand Paul votes for tax bill and then tries to block budget because of concerns about deficit.

@ss

and then scolds his fellow Republicans for hypocrisy to boot.

Perfect.

I’m the only one seeing this thread 6 times on the home page, aren’t I?

I watched Rand Paul for a bit and the best part of his speech was when he announced some of the specific stupid, wasteful expenditures, like the study on why people fall in love or whether the quote was one giant step for man or one giant step for a man. Millions on this garbage but no one talks about it.

I used to study some of the horrid experiments done by the NIH or the NDA and their costs. People had a difficult time believing it. We actually went into Cornell and got details from their own library and staged a huge demo over it. 2000 people showed up. And that dumb redundant experiment was only 250,000 a year to addict cats to barbituates.

I feel whatever you think of Rand Paul, or his sincerity, he had some disturbing facts and figures. Yet today, so far, not one mention. As I say consistently it is worth tuning into C-SPAN.

With a budget as large as the U.S.'s, worrying about a few million dollars in expenditure is a colossal waste of time. Especially in an area, government sponsored research, that as a whole does us tremendous good, for not a whole lot of money. Picking a few outliers accomplishes nothing other than denigrate the whole idea of government sponsored research, which is Paul's real goal.
