Sarah Sanders is absolutely the worst.

I really like our press secretary who presents a no-nonsense, direct report of the DC day. Standing up to the majority liberal press anxious to box her in or get a gotcha moment would be daunting for anyone. She does not suffer fools gladly — and gives as good as she gets.

I don't think of her as our press secretary, not yours and not mine. She is the White House's press secretary. I don't look at the nation as a hierarchy with the president as the boss's boss. He's not my commander in chief; he is the commander in chief of the military. I don't answer to him. The press secretary speaks for the White House (i.e. the president), not for me.

As for whom you really like, so you really like Sanders. Do you really like Trump?

Serious question - Why do people even watch Sanders' press conferences?

Because when you think you’ve seen it all, she can’t shock you anymore, she one ups it. And since she’s speaking for the President, it just compounds the disbelief. You can’t look away. She’s extremely good at her (nut) job.

You’re being ironic, right?

I don’t use irony often, just say what I believe. That confounds folks, I know.

As a politics junkie, watching the daily press conferences is a good way to hear what is being said before the comments get reworked on the evening news

No, she's not the worst.  The blonde mouth piece is the worst.  I can't hear her for one minute, she's so full of lies, she makes me ill.

mtierney, what do you think of the Rob Porter situation? Should he have been allowed to keep his job?

mtierney said:

What confounds me is that much of the time I can't figure out what you really believe. Often your expressed "beliefs" are contradictory.

I watch the news on PBS. They don't "rework" the press conference, they show a tape of it.

selected taped segments, right?

My “beliefs” are not contradictory— they are just different from yours

try again. you misunderstood the "contradictory" comment.

Then again, you might not be aware of it, because intellectual consistency is not a hallmark of your belief system. I.e. your beliefs contradict themselves because you have no single moral underpinning. Your morality is purely situational. We could give you many, many examples, but it would be a waste of time.

No, they are actually contradictory.  Take, for example, your outrage at Bill Clinton's affairs and your complete lack of outrage at the numerous accounts of Trump's sexual assaults, unprotected sex with porn stars, perv walks through teen beauty pageants dressing rooms, etc, etc, etc..... literally ad nauseam

As I was growing up,  my mother who had all the patience in the world for tolerating me..........and who all

like her generation lived through the Depression and later wrote every day to her three brothers that

were overseas for World War 2..............often looked at me with that strength borne of tolerating the crap which

the world can through at us........and said........."No matter what keep your sense of humor. It can be the greatest Armor in the world"

You do realize that it's the media's job to be skeptical, to question, to challenge and to hold power accountable, don't you?  The press corp is not there to take down minutes.

Yeah, Lost.   Alternate Facts.    What'samatterYou?

For Republicans, climate deniers, gun humpers, and Christian Fundies, alternate facts are just as good as fact facts. So there.

To keep quiet about an affair that never happened.

I will try to not judge all Evangelical Christians by the rhetoric and actions of Pence, Sanders or those others and I will hope that Evangelical Christians will not judge all Muslims by the actions of Osama Bin Laden.

I judge the vast majority of them by their leaders, the heads of their faith. The very many who praise Trump & Co. and their many followers who hallelujah along.

For, they are the vast majority of Evangelicals.

Yesterday showed some cracks in her veneer.  She repeatedly used the ‘this is the information I’ve been given’ explanation; it appeared that she was acknowledging that she knew what she was saying was BS but wanted sympathy from the reporters because its’ her job.

Her lying Daddy raised a lying daughter. Most 'saved' are just like them.

I wonder why Jesus never had to lie, but all these self-proclaimed Christians do.

An excerpt of something from a fairly traditional Catholic writer, on the difference between "Christian" and "Christianist" -

Seeing as how it is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Day, this seems like a good time for a quick refresher on the distinction between Christian and Christianist. King got a lot of flack from the Christianists of his day.  Sent to jail for upholding Christian teaching in a land teeming with Good White Christianists, he too found it necessary to make clear the distinction between the two subcultures in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail.  It spelled out the difference between obeying Jesus Christ no matter what and using Christian imagery and culture, wedded to corrupt power, as a prophylactic against obedience to Jesus Christ.
...
“Christianism” denotes a theopolitical cultus centered around the worship of corrupt power–in our time, Donald Trump and his party–which makes open war on the actual teaching of Jesus Christ, while dressing itself up in Christian imagery. It opposes the Church’s teaching openly on unjust war, refugees, torture, a living wage for workers, the destruction of the families of poor and brown people, capital punishment, race, the environment, and any other issue where Catholic teaching poses a threat to the Party of Trump. It characteristically uses the unborn as human shields as it conducts that war on the Church. Its chief enemy is Pope Francis, whom it constantly vilifies.

To be clear, many baptized Christians think and behave like Christianists, just as many baptized Christians fought King every step of the way. As I am not a Protestant, I do not say such folk are “not real Christians”.  I say they are, to the degree that they are Christianists, bad Christians who remain members of the Church.

This quote from Gandhi sums up my feelings about most Fundamentalist Christians, or people who claim to be Christian, like Trump, who, through his own deeds, actions and statements throughout his life has demonstrated that he is about the least Christian person imaginable, and those Christians who support such a vile human being.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

“I like your quotation’s attributes, I do not like its attribution.”

Ha! It's not a quote at all, but it's by Bara Dada. “Jesus is ideal and wonderful, but you Christians, you are not like him.”

Jesus Loves Me (But He Can’t Stand You)

—Austin Lounge Lizards

I know you smoke, I know you drink that brew,
I just can't abide a sinner like you.
God can't either, that's why I know it's true,
That Jesus loves me but he can't stand you.

I'm going straight to heaven, boys, when I die,
'cause I've crossed every T and I've dotted every I
Why, my preacher tells me I'm god's kind of guy,
That's why Jesus loves me, but you're gonna fry.

God loves all his children, by gum,
That doesn't mean he won't incinerate some,
Can't you feel those hot flames licking you?

I'm raising my kids in a righteous way,
So don't be sending your kids to my house to play,
Yours will grow up stoned, left leaning and gay,
I know - Jesus told me on the phone today.

Jesus loves me, this I know
And he told me where you're gonna go,
There's room for your kind down below
Whoa, whoa, whoa

Jesus loves me, he loves me real good. I know he does. He called me up on the phone today and told me how much he loves me. He said, "Son, I love you." He speaks English pretty well, considering it's a second language for him. You can talk to him, too, you know. I've got a 900- number in Tulsa you can call him at, I do it all the time. He'll be glad to hear from you. I talk to him every day.
