Remembering Augie

He died 10 years ago - and still we've not learned that war is not the answer - especially over there. For those of you who are new to this town, Augie was a great kid, a scout, a lifeguard, a rescue squad volunteer, a wonderful, kind, funny young man. He left college and joined the Marine reserves after 9/11 - he never made it home. This song was dedicated to him and the Ohio marines who died in August 2005 - but the video is all him - please take a moment to watch.

He was my son's friend A great kid. A tremendous loss

My God............my generation made the sacrifice in Vietnam. The Domino Theory they called it and the attack on American war ship in the Gulf of Tonkin never happened. My friends who never came home would be old men now.....spoiling their grand children.

And my Grandsons will be of age in 10 years for another trumped up war. Their mom was raised by our generation that said "No"..........not again , not with our sons and daughters . We may not stop it........but we will not make it easy for them.

We do this to honor or own and this fine young man. May God give us Strength

Angie was the funny sweet like able guy ..he'd pop his head in my room and then be gone ..the light wheat hair and brilliant smile ...his memory is still here 10 years later.

What could have been with all these brave men who have left ...gone ......

Augie's smile will always be there .10 years ago and it still unreal ..my heart goes out to his family..

sorry, edited to delete possibly an inappropriate post, but 10 years later it still makes me so angry. truly an excellent kid, big-hearted.

Augie was my son's friend as well. They were members of the same BSA troop and worked together at Camp Glen Grey for several summers. His presence is deeply missed.

mjc - whatever was in your "inappropriate post" - Paul and Rosemary would most likely agree. Their only son died in an ill-conceived (and IMO illegal) war. His unit was returning to the same place for the 5th time to clear insurgents from the area when their Humvee hit an IED. Had our military properly armored the Humvee in which he was riding he would have had a fighting chance to survive - but it recently came to light that they felt doing so was too costly. As Pogo would say - we have met the enemy and he is us.

Remembering this time with sadness. Such an excellent video. Best thoughts to Rosemary and Paul.

Thank you Soorlady for posting.

For Augie and my friend Bobby Garrido who also never returned home.......

If our elected leadership continues to use our young as cannon fodder

It is the duty of we the people to say "NO" , you represent us no longer.

We have a better way

So sad and unnecessary. Our leaders did not care about the people they were sending into harms way. Not only was the motive personal and financial, but they didn't even give our troops the requisite supplies to keep them safe. I don't know how they sleep at night, although I'm sure they sleep just fine. After all, it's usually not their children, brothers, sisters, parents in danger. RIP Augie, and we will be sending prayers to Rosemary and Paul.
