Remember Richard Meier?

Just read this in the NYTimes. 5 women have charged him with sexual harassment. His exhibition of collages and silk-screens at Sotheby's is being removed.  Meier,a former Maplewood resident, is an architect who was mentioned in our post office discussion.    Made correction.

This is a good example of how news can be misleading.  To say that he was involved in the discussions about the Post Office in this context suggests that he did something more than just offer an opinion.

Are you sure? I heard that he offered to design a new world-class building for us free of charge while throwing in the labor, materials and a pony for each Maplewood resident.

I was at the ideas festival presentation where he spoke and no such thing was mentioned.  There were a number of persons who would have liked his input but I am not aware of any such input being given.

Members of Village Keepers (?) and OhNo60 took him and Peter Eisenman on a tour of the old Post Office site before it was demolished earlier that day.

Then this:

And then he agreed to a 60 minute private consultation with the TC and some other parties. Nothing came of it, but for some you would have imagined he was prepared to design a great beautiful re-purposed building when in fact he had said nothing of the sort.

Not so — but I don’t know about the Mrs

Early lifeEdit

Meier was born to a Jewish family,[2][3][4] the oldest of three sons of Carolyn (Kaltenbacher) and Jerome Meier, a wholesale wine and liquor salesman,[5] in Newark, New Jersey.[6] He grew up in nearby Maplewood,[7] where he attended Columbia High School. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University in 1957.

After graduation, Meier traveled to IsraelGreeceGermanyFranceDenmarkFinland, and Italy, among other places, to network with architects.[5]

Sorry if my irony wasn't clear.  Ridski has it right. He offered a short chat, which occurred, but the mistaken notion that he was actually going to work on the site, let alone for free,  unfortunately persisted for quite a while.

Any suggestions he would have offered would not have fallen in line with the foreordained mediocrity that

was the final product.  Sort of reminds me  of a melange of the Millburn elevated parking lot and

the gum wall

So does this mean I'm not getting my pony?

You still on about that goddammed pony?

The Township paid entirely for the demolition and removal of the Post Office

Hundreds of thousands of dollars for new run off pipes for the bldg

The prime location in the village was granted a five year pilot

The whole thing was a financial rape of Maplewood Vllage

Don't insult my pony.........Richard M gave it to me

We deal in unicorns.  But you can pick the color

whoa, "financial rape" - somebody is clearly still harboring a lot of anger - just kick back a pint of beer at the Cassidy and chill

If we did have a Meier building, then we would reignite the repurpose/demolish argument again - at least we don't have that issue...

I will give the Circus building credit and a yellow star on their chart in that they have replaced the two

benches lost when the Post Office was demolished with a total of six benches surrounding the bldg

Combine that with the two new ones added across from the Tratoria and this area is now running

8 plus benches...........my cup runneth over

No animosity to the Cassidy but I do what little drinking I do at the Pub

Glad you did not mention coffee at Starclutz.............then you would have seen anger
