Recycling

Hey neighbors, how about not putting out any unbound cardboard out for reclycling, so that on a day like today it doesn't blow over to your neighbors property and they have to pick it up.

Thanks.

On my walk to the train, there were cans and plastic bottles littering the street up and down. Many recycling bins blew over. Mine did. I chased egg cartons, tissue boxes and other debris for ten minutes...

I have since adopted an empty recycling container (short, blue, small logo, drainage holes) that blew into the middle of my street during a particularly strong wind event about two Monday's ago. It sat unclaimed on my median (where I placed it after rescuing it from the street) until neighbors started calling to ask if I was all right because I had not brought in my recycling container for over a week. If anyone is missing a recycling container that fits the above description, or knows of someone missing such a container, please send me a PM so arrangements can be made to return it to its rightful owner.

grin Glad your neighbors are looking out for you.

i put my recycling out in a gaint clear plastic lawn/leaf bag. No chasing recycling around from overturned bins, no dragging bins in and out of the house. Nothing blows away ever.

Surprised they accept your recycling. We are supposed to use the "approved" recycle bins. My blew over. Have to say that while I was picking up I saw neighbors picking up not only their recycling but stuff in other yards. I had to pick up more later because some got blown around.

JPhotos, yeah, I'm surprised they pick it up too. I thought it was only the approved toters or extra cans that could be emptied into the truck.

What truly fries me are those that put out the unbroken down boxes, which then blow all over. They obviously were never in the toter. Just about all the toters on my street were blown over and yes, stuff from them was blown around but clearly the 'boxes' that were still intact, were never in the toters.

Doh ! Im in maplewood. They'll take it in anything here

And it's ALWAYS a mess on those streets on recycle day and the day before and after.

Clear plastic bags are acceptable in Maplewood only if they contain shredded paper. You don't have to use an official recycling tote but you are required to use a reusable container.

In all fairness to our neighbors, many put their bins out the night before and then are off to work early. Unless you're on top of the wind rate, you're not giving it a 2nd thought. I'm in Montrose and yes, there were cans, bottles tossed around and many bins tipped over. On my dog walks, I'd pick up a few items here and there and put them into my bins.

What I would ask of our lovely neighbors is to PICK UP ITEMS whether yours or not, when you see them still on the street. These are nice streets and it's not cool to see recyclables still strewn about a few days after pick up.

kibbegirl,

Not being critical of those who put their bins and that blew over, hell, mine blew over. What I'm criticizing is those that put 'fully assembled' cardboard boxes out, that in no way were ever in a bin, then they blow all over. Heck, there was a Keurig box including the internal packaging that was in my driveway.
