Recommendations for house painters

Please let me know your recommendations for house painters in the area: Rutgers, Wilber's, College Works, World of Colors, Others?

Thanks!

Olger Fallas handled both our exterior and interior jobs, over two years. These are great people to work with, and we think our results were excellent, with great communication all the way through... BTW: I'm not in the video.

I’ve used several of these folks over the years. Depends who is available.  Do get estimates from several.

From Robert Roe, Health Officer Maplewood:  If you are doing exterior house painting, make sure the contractor has passed the EPA Lead Safe work course.   This covers such items as using vacuum sanders, covering the ground work areas, sealing windows and other house entrances and doing a very good clean up.

The info is anecdotal because I'm just a homeowner and not an expert in painting. I think it comes down to the crew, and volume of work done by the business owner.

We hired Wilber's for interior painting about 3 years ago. I'd give them a B-. They were not the low bidder. They stripped wallpaper, skim coated walls and painted multiple interior rooms. After they left I kept finding small details where the work was a little sloppy. The estimator was very nice and sent them back to 'fix' things, without charge. They did this, but I would not even invite them to bid next time around.

I would get as many estimates as you can and make sure you understand the differences in prep, coats, etc so you are comparing apples to apples.

Star Painting in Garwood. Phil Rinaldi and his crew have done a couple of projects for us over the years, interior and exterior, and we've always been really happy. As a matter of fact, we're getting them going on our new house next week.

Whichever company you select, get the specifics in writing.  This would include such basic things as taping windows (they seem to believe that they can just edge it in because it saves a ton of time), sanding movable parts down prior to painting (e.g., windows/doors - Last painter we used didn't sand down doors (room or cabinets) so that they stick, the paint peels and/or chips off when opened/closed), etc.  One would presume that these basic things would not have to be spelled out, but apparently they do.
