Reasonably priced Cat Dentist?

The stray cat that adopted me (3 years ago) has periodontal disease and needs to have teeth removed. First vet estimate is $800 plus. Does anyone know if can be done more reasonably?

$800 for how many teeth to be removed? I have a friend that has a cat who had to have all his teeth removed due to some disease of the gums. She went to Westfield and they wanted $2K. BUT I suggested she go to the new "Valley Vet" and he charged her $1K for the procedure .

got to Valley Vet. Used another vet prior and was told both cats needed their teeth cleaned at over $350per 10 years ago. Switched to Valley Vet later that year due to that and a few other issues. Guess what, no teeth cleaning needed and feed them an oral care dry cat food. Never needed the cleanings and the both lived to 17+ years old.

Our vet (here in Wisconsin where most prices are lower than in NJ) also recommended cleaning the cat's teeth, at about $800, which honestly is more than I would probably pay for my own teeth! Also, I have always been concerned about using general anesthetic for the procedure, though I understand why it's used.

Oral care food sounds like a great idea - thanks, Joy! I will try to find some. Brand name??

Hills? I think. Royal Canin?

If I recall our vet charges $400 per cat.

Just had 6 teeth pulled and cleaned by Dr markos for $600, which included pills.
