Where are you? I heard some pretty loud music over here up the hill from Flood's Hill. (Never mind I see this is in Maplewood Specific).
I don't really believe there's any need to blare your music out to a 3-block radius. Some people seem to think their choice in music should be everyone's preference.
we got a similar thing going on at Irvington ave, near ivy hill
Maybe time to revisit noise ordinance to include a time limit in addition to an 11 pm cutoff
Major party on our block (toddler birthday/Memorial Day).
We just dragged out our lawn chairs and are lounging in the yard with the party as a backdrop...
really depends on HOW loud. There was once someone a block from me having such a loud party that when a house a bout 500 feet away caught on fire and the fire dept was there, someone complained about the noise of the party...OVER the fire engines.
For the most part I don’t mind the occasional long loud party, but one year the people behind us were doing karaoke and they totally sucked. I’m not a fan of Sinatra to begin with, but Sinatra being poorly sung by drunks is something no one should ever have to listen to.
There was another incident at the end of my block where it was so loud we had to scream to hear each other outside...from my house a long half block away...that was too loud, they did turn it down to the point we could talk normally and be heard.

Am I just grumpy, or is seven hours plus long enough on what is, after all, my holiday weekend too? It is feeling disrespectful. We have taken a deep breath and been patient. but this really wearying. tell me if I shouldjustgetover it. it’s ok, pile on but it was really loud for a long time. seems to be a little quieter, relatively speaking, but still very intrusive.
Let me know next time your neighbors throw a party at 11am. As a big fan of day drinking, I’ll be right over.
If music is so loud that we can’t hear our tv when we are a block away, with all our windows closed, it is too loud. What is WRONG with people?
Am not a big party person, prefer a quiet time. And am inclined to leave parties if they get loud because my ears hurt. So inviting me over would not matter.
Outdoor parties with amplified music should be banned in residential areas. Get a hall for your event. Or just use a little speaker that projects just to your group. I am sure your guests can’t hear each other talk either.
Neighbors get a minimum of one bad behavior night a season. That’s if you’re super anal. Have some charity towards those around you. Seeing someone having a ball and acting like goofs in their home with friends and family should warm the heart, not cause resentment.
If they’re blasting double Marshall stacks at 2am, that’s one thing. But just some loud music on a weekend till 10pm? Let them have some fun.
The exception I’ll make is for unsupervised underaged jams- just because underaged people making tons of noise are also going to consume tons of intoxicants and will cause tons of trouble at some point during the night. How do I know? Because once upon a time I was the party thrower, probably a hundred times, and I was super, super diligent in making sure things stayed on the rails but kids being kids things sometimes went off the rails. Never tragically, thank God, but in retrospect, while I was good I was probably a hell of a lot more lucky.
But over 30’s jamming out for a night? Eh. Leave em be.

Hear hear!
It's not about having fun, it's just the volume. When neighbors a block away can't hear their TV over the music - with all windows closed - it is really too loud. Do your thing, just don't prevent your neighbors from doing their thing. And possibly consider what you are doing to your guests' eardrums. Seriously - if you aren't sure, walk a block over, maybe two, and see how loud your music is. Then go home, and turn it down. I note in despair that I suppose most people are probably sure that their party is OK and wouldn't do this check, but it is something to consider if you are using amplifiers at your outdoor party.
No idea what age these people were, nor does it matter.
