Range hood vent (blower) cleaner person?

We ahve a FiveStar range and hood. It's professional grade. The blowers on the inside the range hood are filled with grease. It is wet/sticky/black, and drips out when in use. It is totally a dangerous fire hazard. Unsanitary, compromizing the ventillation, and I hate it. But I can't clean it because the grease is so much and so dang sticky/messy.

New blower costs $700 for the part alone. Not sure how much to clean the grease out, or if it can be done, but if it can, and if it is quite cheaper, we may do that.

I asked the guy at the SO Trat about theirs, and he said there's a local guy who cleans it. He didn't have a number and only thought he might know a first name. Does anyone know such a maintenance person?

TIA

There are actually quite a few service providers near by. Here is another http://www.greasemonkeyhoodz.com/

If you think you might want to DIY, I find that grease is easily removed by an ammonia solution. Smelly, but it works.

BTY, I recently had the house repainted and had your problem. Cause was improper painting job (painted the outside flapper shut).

Thanks for this!

So far it seems these companies don't do residential service. LOL

No, they don't do residential. I'm going to trash it and get an exterior blower I think.

The reason they don't do residential, is because they have a steam unit in their truck and pump boiling water into the vents and hoods of the commercial units. The water then splashes onto the floor and into the floor drain of the restaurant's kitchen.

I don't know why non-vented units exist.  Hopefully your filter is plugged up and just in need of cleaning or replacement, otherwise I would recommend the vented unit you are considering.  And hopefully your exterior wall is convenient to the range.

TSP is a great grease remover.
