Problems w/ Yahoo mail all of a sudden ...

Out of the blue, my Yahoo email stopped working on both my iPhone and my iPad. I can't send or receive mail.

The error message says

"Cannot Get Mail. The mail server IMAP, [etc,] is not responding. Please verify that you have entered the correct account information in the Mail settings. "

Why would this happen? It always worked and then last night, this. I didn't change anything in Settings. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Damn. Thanks for the link but...

That doesn't tell me what to do to get it working again.

I think I heard part of a news story yesterday that was requiring password changes (or maybe just verifications?) for all users. That's consistent with the message you got- I usually get that on my outlook email on my phone if I let me work password lapse. Log on from a PC and see if you can re-set your password? Or maybe just go to settings on your iPhone and delete the email and re-do it confirming the current password?

I got the notice too, but am not having trouble with my yahoo mail, and have not been required to change my password.

You should change the password anyway as a precaution.

And then you should switch your email to another provider. Yahoo has proven not to be competent and keeping it secure, and it has done so in two very big ways. I don't think they deserve a third big chance.

I also now have this other bizarre phenomenon occurring on my desktop running Windows 10 and Firefox 50.1.0. Usually I type a URL into the address bar and hit and it goes to the site. And when I type in the first few letters, relevant historical sites appear below. This is typical behavior.

Now when I type something, such as IMDB.com, into the bar, it just sits there. No past pages appear below to choose from and when I hit , nothing. I need to go to Google via a bookmark and then search for IMDB am click to go.

Waddup widdat?

Understood. If I could move my domain-name email address elsewhere, I'd do it. Can I? I own the URL separate from Yahoo so I should be able to use it with any email client, yes?

Yes, that's the whole point of having your own domain. You can host the email with one provider, the web site with another provider, etc, without changing the name. I've done this for many clients and can do it for you, if you're interested. Email: noglider@pobox.com

What's involved? Would I be able to maintain the archive that sits in my Yahoo mail folders? Thanks.

it involves about two hours of my time, some of it giving you instructions. Yes we can copy the email over.

it takes about two or three days for the changeover to complete.

My Yahoo mail was hacked by a party in Nigeria a year ago. I could not access Yahoo files or my e mail

After days of getting nowhere with their printed directions as to access my e mail...........I found this number

Yahoo Tech Support............they tried for a half hour to free up my machine 1-800-256-7021

Finally he connected me directly with an IP support Company in Central Jersey

They took even longer but for a fee freed up my machine and I have been fine since then. Was given

a year guarantee on that work but that time has probably passed

Oh my. Google that phone number. Suspect at best. I would suggest you have a local pro look at your system and see if anything is running in the background that shouldn't be there.

Number was listed by Google forTech Support. If the bad guys managed that one we should put our money in

gold and hide it under the bed. Made payment to a street address right here in Central Jersey...............not too

bright if it was anything underhanded. No negative followup since

So, I got the Yahoo customer service rep on the phone this morning and the issue was this: I had changed the password on my Yahoo mail account, as per everyone's warning but I hadn't made that change effective on the iPad and iPhone. So he walked me through that - and Bob's Your Uncle.

Google is not edited, so there are plenty of results that are not quite kosher. That number looks highly suspicious, I would not trust these guys and have my computer checked by someone reputable.

I did follow up and checked with various search engines the validity of the number. There were no problems noted. Also I did learn my lesson and made my passwords more complex.........letters, numbers and symbols.
