Preschools in West Orange area? archived

I work in Warren so I drive through Millburn and South Orange to get to 78. My wife works in Fairfield so she drives up to our current daycare off of Laurel Ave in Livingston to get to Fairfield.

Any suggestions on preschool options for our son who just turned 3? Looking to start this summer.

Everyone in WO area loves Playhouse. If I were closer I'd send my daughter there!

FIrst Mountain Preschool is located on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange.

They also have a summer program. Best of Luck.

Playhouse! Especially in the summer - there are baby chicks, trips to the town pool, and the kids are outside so much. I'm about to send my second kid there; she can't wait.

JCC. I have 2 kids there (both 3) and highly recommend it. Fabulous teachers and state of the art facility. Message me if you want more info. We've done camp there as well.

Full time at Playhouse is around $1400/month, correct? I'm talking an 830am dropoff to at least 530pm pickup, probably 6pm pickup.

We looked at Playhouse a few years ago but found that their full-day hours didn't really meet our needs. I believe they have early morning drop-off but they don't go past 5:30 in the evening.

Their hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

I really wanted to put my son there because it truly seems like an amazing place but 5:30 pick up is just too much stress for our 2 working parent household.

Yes - Playhouse is pretty tight about ending at 5:30. Tuition is a sliding scale based on income. They do take kids as early as 7:30 (we do early drop off) for no extra cost, but especially if you commute the 5:30 might be tight. We would not be able to make it work except for the great good fortune of family in the area to do pickup every day. A lot of folks are able to work out carpools; not sure if that's possible for you. It might be worth talking it through with the Playhouse folks. In any case - good luck!

Definitely talk to Playhouse and look into carpools. Playhouse is an amazing preschool and I'm so glad we sent our kids there. It's a really special place.

(And yes, tuition is on a sliding scale.)

Playhouse is absolutely worth looking into to see if you can make the transportation issues work -- an amazing place. Sounds hyperbolic to say about a preschool, but it's really something.

@bradykp - what are your ideal hours, based on your schedule?

Look at South Orange Country Day. It is very close to the border with West Orange and offers care from 7:30 to 6PM. Lots of kids in aftercare, too.

Just curious, how much is JCC ?

I'll attach this year's tuition schedule when I am at a computer. But for 2.5 hours a day in the 2s program it's close to 6k a year. Obviously extended hours, lunch, enrichment classes, etc are all additional.

Not everyone.

OK @Woot - I'll bite.

You might look at a few of the options in South Orange. We've been very happy with Village Babies on Valley, which has a 6:30pm pick up. Totri is also right near there on Valley; Little Stages is off SO Ave. You can also get to St. Stephen's in Millburn without too much trouble, and I believe they have a 6pm pickup.

I forgot to check back in. We ended up at Livingston Little Learners right near our babysitter for our 2 younger children. It works well. Thanks everyone.
