Ponds - Like real ground fed ponds

The home i recently moved into has a ground-fed pond.  There is a pvc pipe that also leads into the pond.  Though there is a lot of vegetation around the pond, there is standing water at the the boarders of the plantings.  I'm also starting to see mosquito above the pond and i'm worried it will be prime real estate for mosquitoes and the like come the dog days of summer.

Can anyone recommend a landscaper or anyone for that matter that knows about this stuff that i can speak with and get some advice from.

Thanks!

You can buy mosquito 'dunks'.  They add a bacteria to the water, which inhibits mosquito larvae.

Fairfield Garden Center (in Fairfield oh oh has everything you need for ponds and gives seminars. Their employees are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Do you have a pump and filter?  Do you have fish in your pond?  Mosquitos are not a problem, as long as you have moving water.  Whatever larva is present, the fish will take care of them.

Thanks for the tips.  i'll check out the Fairfield Garden Center.  The pond has no fish, and i'm not sure what condition the water is in so i'll have to test it.  It is made up of creek water that flows into the pond and drains into the swear but if i have to find out from the town what treatment would be allowed.

I think an aerator would help a lot but the bottom of the pond is much and murk.  i'll try the dunks.

I don't know how to send a private message in this new format.

I was the listing agent for a house that closed in January that had a spring fed pond.  If you are the person who bought it, I would be happy to forward you the email address of the previous owners.  They were avid gardeners and loved that pond and I'm sure they would have good advice for you.  email me at sarahzm@aol.com
