I’d love to. Who are they, where do they live and what can I do to help?
At this point there are huge organized volunteer teams doing cleanups. This gofundme is for 1-2 Millburn families who had been residing in the South Mountain neighborhood. Their homes have been destroyed. My understanding is that there is no insurance coverage as they didn’t live in a flood zone. Donations would be greatly appreciated. Please share.
Thanks

I'll certainly donate to this cause, but I'm wondering about the help that is available to these families. Do you know whether they have made a FEMA application, because it certainly sounds like FEMA should help with their situation.
I found this:
Will FEMA help if I don't have flood insurance?
If you have no flood insurance, FEMA's IHP grant
can help you in a specific set of ways after a flood or other disaster.
This includes paying for the cost of repairing the structure of your
home and additional living expenses that you incur as a result of being
displaced from your home.
What do we know about the organizers. With no real info about the recipients, its hard to trust this is for real.....especially after the homeless vet that gave his last $20 to a stranded woman...and more recently a woman claiming she was losing her home and lied about having kids....
I personally know a family that is well off (300K in super luxury cars among other resources), yet managed to run a 6 figure GFM for medical care.
If they want to keep the identifies of the recipients private, it would help to know more about the organizers to judge their credibility.
Assuming these families are really financially needy, it can take a long time to get help from FEMA and funding for the next few months (housing, clothes, etc) would be vital.
They need to put in their application to FEMA early. Document everything. Governor Murphy was in millburn yesterday, announced financial aid to small businesses. $10 million is not enough though. This storm was worse than Floyd.
Hey all,
I do not know these families personally but I do know that Millburn has been devastated and I do know the wonderful women organizing the help effort in our town. I also know that all avenues are being vigorously pursued for helping them including FEMA.(I believe President Biden needs to approve the request from the Governor first.)
If you are suspicious or have doubts by all means do not donate. However I can assure you this is no scam.
I trust that this is no scam, and I remember having a conversation with Cubby during the awful situation at Winchester Gardens years ago. However, do you know, Cubby, the women organizing the fund raiser well enough to find out about the FEMA application? From what they've posted on the website, it's difficult to tell whether a FEMA application has been made. What happened to these families should certainly be covered by FEMA. I realize it may take a while for the application to go through and monies to start to flow, and it's reasonable for the community to help tide them over until the FEMA grant arrives.
I'm not sure you can apply for FEMA help unless President Biden declares a federal state of emergency. That's certainly what our neighborhood was told on Thursday morning.

Was your neighborhood seriously damaged by Ida? Do you and/or your neighbors need help?

That's what we heard in Millburn on Thursday
As I said feel free to do as you please. I am simply spreading the word in order to try to get this family as much support as possible. I’m dealing with my own storm related problems and do not need help with the status of the Governor’s FEMA request.

then why aren't they more open with details? it looks like the organizers are a real estate agency, that would be helpful to know. details make campaigns more successful
