Pizza boxes do NOT belong in recycling

Hey dumbass, your pizza box (the one with the food stains?) does NOT belong in recycling!

Is it all right with you if I tear off the unblemished lid and add it with my other cardboard?

I wonder - if it's easily visible for you to see.  Why doesn't the recycling company just leave it?

Different towns treat this differently. You should check with local recycling.

I've wondered about this restriction. I can't imagine that a little grease would so screw up the recycling process. It's not like the cardboard stream is pristine otherwise. Glue and tape abound.

Our recycling does say - no grease, but maybe it's not as much of an issue as we think.  At least according to this article from the Sierra club:

https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/yes-you-can-recycle-your-pizza-boxes

WestRock’s study found, cheese and grease "at typical levels" do not impact the quality of paper and cardboard manufactured at mills using recycled materials. Technology gets some of the credit: Over the years, paper mills have become more adept at screening out chunks of cheese during the pulping process. Meanwhile, it turns out that it's the very rare mill that receives pizza boxes in a volume large enough to impact its end products. As a result, the AFPA just responded with new industry guidance: Pizza boxes are recyclable.

So, who knows for sure.

is the plastic thingy that keeps the lid unblemished recyclable?

My pizza boxes don't have any plastic thingys (thingies?)   I usually cut the greasy spots out or only recycle the top if there is a lot of grease spread around the bottom.  It varies quite a bit.

I just throw paper in my back yard and mulch it whenever I get around to cutting my grass.  Don't have to worry about grease.

What do you do with the grease clippings? And how do you deal with Canada grease?

I can't believe the neighbors are ok with you tossing the old pizza boxes in your yard and potentially attracting visitors.

That is disturbing.  That pizza isn't even in a box.  I wouldn't expect that we have rats of such low standards in Maplewood.

I only recently found out that the little plastic thing serves TWO purposes. 1) Keep cheese off da' lid and 2) So no has to touch other slices when taking their our. You kinda jam the plastic thingy into the slice you wanna remove and use your hand only on your slice.

It's one more plastic geegaw that did not need to be invented.  Just more trash.

I repurpose one of those pizza guard thingies as a cellphone stand.

it’s purpose is to prevent the box from caving in when delivering pizzas. So you can stack them.

i know that.  That doesn't mean it needed to be invented.  The world would have stumbled along just fine without it.
