Pickleball, anyone?

After seeing pics of various out-of-state cousins enjoying the game for a number of years, I finally gave it a try out in Berkeley Heights where there is a large and lively group of folks playing at least 3 times per week.  I was instantly hooked!  This game combines rules and skills from tennis, ping pong, and paddleball to create a fast-paced game that almost anyone can master and enjoy.  One p-ball court occupies the space of slightly less than a tennis court, making it accessible to folks as young as 6 and as old as 96!  It is a doubles game that is great for maintaining or developing quick reflexes, good hand-eye coordination, stamina and balance.  Best of all, in my opinion, is that while definitely competitive, it also has a very friendly and supportive game culture.  Newbies are warmly welcomed, coached and paired with experienced partners to help them acclimate quickly and with minimal angst.

Clearly I’m drinking the koolaid flavored water!  Did I mention it is free in Berkeley Heights?  Looking to start a group locally.  Anyone interested?

I might be.  My mom and step dad play, and I have played with them.  Where in BH do you play?

Totally interested.  I know a bunch of my tennis buddies would also be interested.  Maybe the sad, poorly maintained tennis court in Borden Park could be revitalized for pickleball.  I'm willing to serve on any committee to help with this.

campbell29: The group meets in the park adjacent and to the left of the middle school, I think it’s on  Plainfield Ave?  There are 2 sets of tennis courts.  P-ball is played in the second enclosure. Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Angelak: i agree that Milo Borden Park has great potential for starting a local group.  Thanks for volunteering to help with this project!
