Parliamentary Solution

I will try to be Grammatically Correct.

In almost every other democratic country an impasse such as we are now experiencing would result in the dissolution of Parliament and new elections.

Perhaps Trump, Pence and all members of Congress should resign and we should have new elections.

That would be a dream come true...

France and Italy have had 65 and 66 governments since 1946.  Great if you have the coffee concession in the building

How interesting that no one is commenting on the vote today ending the shutdown and continuing funding to February 8th.

Vote was 81-18. See how they voted.

We just don't have that system.  Under our system, if everyone in the House of Representatives resigns, then there are special elections.  If everyone in the Senate resigns, the governors pick replacements.  If the President and VP resign, the next available person in line takes the job.

If you are admitting you think the US Constitution isn't the Greatest Governmental Design Ever Written and the US Constitution isn't a shining beacon in a dark sky then I agree with you.

Many of the problems that we blame our politicians for are the result of our institutions (or exacerbated by our institutions), not our elected officials being worse than elected officials in other democracies.

It's political maneuvering at this point, as nothing is resolved and there is still time before the Trump "DACA deadline".

Of course it's political maneuvering, but that's nothing new and no one is "shocked, shocked".

True, but that just means that there's not much to comment on right now.

I posted the vote so we can see who are the "moderates" and who are the "militants". I figured folks would be interested.

I don't think the "No votes" are militants.  A number are thinking of running for President, so probably want to protect themselves on the Left.  Or they're Bernie Sanders.

Not everyone who voted "no" is running for President and not everyone who voted "yes" isn't running.

Whatever.  In any event, it looks like the children's health (CHIP) program has full funding for six years now.  The GOP talking point this past weekend was that the Democrats were punishing children to help "illegals".  That's gone now, and within the next 21 days there will either be a DACA vote or another round of shutdown.

So 16 Democratic Senators voted no to "Protect themselves from the Left'

Among those protecting themselves from the left was Jerseys' Cory Booker

This is an interesting shift from the Obama years on this board.  When I complained about the Constitutionality of certain of his programs(spying, kill lists, etc) I was gleefully informed that I'd get a chance to vote him out in a few years.

Now, the government "shuts down" for a weekend and we want to scrap the Constitution.  Interesting.
