Parade of cars with anti-socalism signs

Saw them driving a Maplewood yesterday on Prospect and Tuscan. Anyone know what the story is behind these protesters?

If I had to guess I'd say they might be connected to the Trumpers who drove around last fall to troll the "lib" towns in Essex County.

Are you asking what the story is about that particular drive-around, or what the story is behind a group of people who get their jollies doing that?

They are just looking to provoke people. I ignore them. As soon as you see that humongous flag, look the other way. I won’t feed into their dementia. I wonder if they’re so badass why they don’t cruise around Irvington or Newark or east orange…

That's not a very enlightened comment.

Agreed. Dumb thing to write.

Five minutes before I took this photo from our 3rd floor balcony on Daytona Beach last Thursday evening, I saw a white pickup headed North on the beach, two big "DeSantis In '24" flags flying... Florida Man!

BTW: Not a terrible beach, oddly enough...

I think it's funny to protest socialism by riding past homes worth $500,000-$1 Million

it's not badass at all because people here are not as easily triggered as the Trumpers.  Does anyone here get angry at those guys?  It feels like the typical response is to either ignore them or maybe give an eye roll.

or maybe...

There is one guy, riding around his pick-up, flying a flag that looks like the symbol for the Roosevelt administration's' National Recovery Administration.

And then they'll all drive home, dozens of miles away, and complain about the price of gas being Biden's fault.

I see them as bullies, who think they’re badass. Just look at the trucks, the flags, the way they drive around looking at people. Why pick maplewood? Because they know it’s a liberal enclave. Irvington is not Republican… but they won’t go there doing that crap. See, you have to understand the mentality of the trumpenstein cult, they hate equally, but they’re really cowardly. It’s easier to go provoke white liberals…

Seems a bit racist to insinuate they'll beat you up in Irvington, East Orange or Newark but not Maplewood. Typically such an insinuation would provoke a firestorm on here, but perhaps you get a pass because your posts are anti-Trumper.

nobody's getting a pass.  no one's defending that statement.  it's a racist comment.

they come here because they think we're "coastal liberal elites."

I can tell you their story in 8 words.

Misinformed people with cars and a Facebook group.

It's racist to say that white people in expensive homes and who don't have guns are wimps?

We need to get some of this energy going in Maplewood if those MAGAts think they can push us around.

Just curious, do you know the name of the Facebook group, and does it contain the words "Patriot", "Constitutional" or "Freedom"?

Who says they don't have guns?  Gun sales here have risen markedly since the pandemic started.

I think it's called "Defund the US Women's National Team"

In isolation no it's not, but that's not what JT said.

You don't think the comments portray Irvington, EO and Newark as vaguely menacing? And/or you don't think such a portrayal is racist?

That's your opinion if so but seems quite inconsistent with your usual opinions.

it is either a racist assumption that Black people are menacing, or an assumption that the anti-socialism people hold racist assumptions that Black people are menacing.

this is true.  but how many of the owners have concealed carry permits?  and in NJ they can't carry openly.  so the odds are not great that someone walking down Tuscan is legally carrying a firearm.

It's racist to allege that the anti-socialism people hold racist assumptions that Black people are menacing. Do your neighbors know that you would even suggest that?

Doesn't this thread belong in the politics section?

So now it’s racist to say a group of racist trumpers are so cowardly that they will only launch a convoy through a liberal neighborhood that’s predominantly white…

Yes they are cowards, they are afraid of being beaten, rocks thrown at their trucks. Heck some of you here don’t even drive through Irvington on a dark night… and you’re not racist…
