Outside painters and roofers who will remove moss.

7 years ago we used Rutgers to paint our house. The time has come again and I wanted to get more up to date recommendations.

We also are desperately in need of a roofer who will remove the moss from our shingles, have a look at them, and make a recommendation as when we should have the roof shingles replaced. Anyone have experiences and or names they can share?

I recently scraped and judiciously wire-brushed (with bleach) the moss off of our garage roof (fortunately the house roof does not have any moss). Most of the shingles underneath are still fine but some have lost a bit of their even appearance and I think if I had power-washed it, the result would have been worse. I kinda doubt that a roofer would want to do what I just did for an entire house especially when they can't guarantee what will be underneath.

If I was you I would talk to the usual suspects of roofers around here (such as R&G). I suspect they would recommend to re-shingle unless you are only talking about a few minor areas.

PS: I tried to convince my wife that the moss-roof garage had the charm of an old English cottage but she wasn't buying that story.

I just used CKG Construction in Parsippany to do exactly that.

I used Moss Out from Home Depot to remove clumps from my garage roof. It worked, the moss fell away. Since then cut some branches back to get more sunlight on the roof.
