i saw them playing hockey in the Millburn park the other day. A lot of winters go by without any skating there. It's a good time to take advantage of it.
South Orange has created a temporary ice rink in Meadowland Park. Currently closed (Sunday morning) and more or less restricted to SO residents.
Skating at Taylor Park..... Damn, that was fun when I was a kid. Flood lights were on and the back room was open with the heat on and radiators churning out steam when you wanted to go in to get warm for a bit.
Joe (Damn, I don't remember his last name) was a retired cop who was hired to monitor the skating at the park. Evening skating started at 7 and ended at 9. Music was played on the speakers tied up on the porch columns.
A couple of years later, the rec. center burned down and there was no more skating for years. Funny to think about it, the rec. center was the Taylor house, It had several rooms but was not used for anything but the recreation office staff. The only time I can recall being inside it for actual recreation was a ballroom dance class after school. There were games and equipment for shuffleboard and ping pong but kids never got to use them. The building was a museum.
Glad to hear skating at the pond came back.

Anyone know of a nearby outdoor frozen body of water where people are safe to skate and I can practice my triple lutz?
