NJ Transit Train/Bus Tickets???

A friend needs to travel from Maplewood to Morristown, then catch the 875 bus to Randolph on a regular basis. Is there a monthly pass that can be purchased to cover both train and bus fares, or must separate passes be purchased?

Also, where can they be purchased? Thanks.

If the train and bus are both NJT and the bus portion is for the same number of zones or fewer, then a monthly train ticket between Maplewood and Morristown should be sufficient for both portions of the trip. If the distance in the bus portion of the trip is greater or if the connecting bus is from a franchise company rather than NJT, the person will likely need two separate tickets. More information should be available at the NJT website or by calling transit information at 973-275-5555.

It appears that it is a NJ Transit bus and that the fare for the train is higher (indicating more zones). One monthly train pass will work, available at the train station. Even if it weren't enough zones, your friend could just pay the step-up fare on the bus, but I can almost guarantee that it is covered--$156 a month for the train ticket. Interestingly, train passes work on the bus, but bus passes don't work on the train.

On the M&E schedule:

You can use your NJ TRANSIT rail pass on light rail or bus! Rail passes are imprinted with a bus-zone number. You can use that rail pass for any light rail trip, or for bus trips up to the number of zones indicated on the pass simply by presenting it to the bus operator or light rail fare enforcement officer. Rail tickets purchased for transfer between the Hoboken and Newark division rail lines "via Secaucus" will be valid for use on the Newark Light Rail at no additional cost for connections between Newark Broad Street and Newark Penn stations only, with a single ticket. Rail one-way, round-trip and 10-trip tickets are not valid on other light rail or bus lines.

Fantastic

Thank you!

I would just double check with NJ Transit, because the 875 is subsidized by Morris County. I think they accept it, but it doesn't hurt to find out.
