Gotta start think about alternative ways home.
Morris & Essex and Gladstone Branch rail service has resumed and is subject to up to 90-minute delays in both directions due to overhead wire problems near Newark Broad St. Montclair Boonton Line Rail Service remains suspended. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross honored by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd St, NJ TRANSIT bus/light rail and private carriers
ETA: Up to 60 minutes
My wife is on a train headed this way that got stopped in Newark for a while. I think they cleared the problem up.
An alternative if you need one is to take NJT from NY Penn Station to Newark Penn Station and then take a local bus to Maplewood or South Orange. This works best if you live near the 1, 25, 31, or 70 bus and have not left your car at the Maplewood Train Station.
Does this impact on Hoboken trains also? I generally use Penn Station NY but can divert to Hoboken. But if this is at Newark that means Hoboken is delayed, too, right?
I picked her up a few minutes ago. The trains are moving.
But are they moving with major delays still?
I went straight to Penn when I heard the trains were back up. The 3:22 Midtown train left about 15 minutes late. I just missed it :-(
They have trains that early in the day? Man, I never get near Penn Station before 5 PM, and usually later.
The 4:09 left out of NY Penn at 4:11. It’s rolling!

Should have waited for the 4:09. Hoboken was my last alternative. As soon as I got to Penn and saw the 4:09 listed, we were in good shape.

I did wait for the 4:09

I'm usually on the 6:08, but once the problems started, I got out immediately because I had an event in NJ last night

Inbound was fun, too. The 12:47 out of Maplewood was between East Orange and Broad Street when the line shut down. First we were told that a train ahead of us was disabled and that we’d wait for another train to arrive to move it. Eventually, our train backed up to East Orange, where we were told it could be stuck for hours. So we disembarked and walked down the block to wait for a Route 21 bus to Newark Penn. Then PATH to Midtown.
Everyone — even the regular riders on the 21 bus, who got unexpectedly crunched — took it calmly, even helpfully.
