Nice write up of Maplewood in Times

i thought someone would have posted this already, but I did not see any threads on it.

Comparing Suburbs: Montclair in New Jersey vs. Dobbs Ferry in New York https://nyti.ms/2F0qiP2

"Too charming" for our own good.

I just learned that I've been living in a "leafy enclave" for thirty years.

Meanwhile, the comments attached to that article are more interesting (and diverse) than the article.

One of the comments suggests that "Montclair and Maplewood are all played out." Say what now?

To my eyes, the article is complimentary and accurate.

The "sixth borough" or "Park Slope with backyards" cr@p is very smug and self-absorbed.  Not all places want to be like Brooklyn or Queens and not all people wish they could live in Brooklyn West.

That's true. I heard one Maplewood "immigrant" call it "Manhattan with trees," and that's not accurate, either. But sometimes you need a sales job that isn't particularly accurate.

My wife and I moved back to Manhattan in 2013. We liked Maplewood, and we like New York. Maplewood is not the 6th borough, nor is it Manhattan with trees. And that's OK.

Nice to see Rent Party get a shout-out!

One wonders whether these people simply haven't traveled much.  Perhaps they need to expand their library of possible landscapes.
