New Site Questions, not to WebMaster

Since the WebMaster is very busy,

How does one post a photo?  Several attempts have failed me.

Ok this one worked.  Glad I asked.

Asking publicly often makes the answer self-evident ;-)

As it seems to have.  Now I look like a A** Hat.

Lesson #1.

Must use Chrome, IE8 just does not cut it for anything including basic screen management.

I heard that MS was discontinuing IE.  Is that true?

(Gotta introduce some thread drift ...)

I heard that, too, but I got the impression it is really just a re-branding.

Yes. They have a new, built from the ground up, browser called "Spartan" for now. I believe IE11 will be the last version and that Windows 10 will include the new one.

They really just changing the name.

I have been listed under a user name I changed several years ago. Don't see any way to update.

Any one know how so I don't have to bother web master?

I'm still trying to figure out how to enter a a URL so it's clickable. Hmmph.

http://www.google.com

Nope. No love. And if I add the a href html coding, the whole link disappears altogether. Argh!

 Apparently not...

Nope. I added html code to my last comment, and it disappeared.

testing ...

(What I tried didn't work, but I could swear that I successfully posted a link at some point yesterday.)

I saw working links yesterday, too. So odd.

Search Results
  1. Maybe you can cut and paste from somewhere else where it already is a link.
  2. Here's a test...
  3. Maplewood Online
  4. www.maplewoodonline.com/

  1. I'm guessing that the editor is supposed to have a hyperlink button but it's not turned on right now. If you quote an existing link then click on it, there are some options that come up that you don't have otherwise.

Not true. It's a completely new rendering engine that is a fork of a more modern browser architecture. But they will also still offer IE 11 as an extra, for those with ancient corporate websites that won't run on anything else.

sac said:I heard that MS was discontinuing IE.  Is that true?(Gotta introduce some thread drift ...) It may be.  But I'm still using IE, so let's see if this posts.  Edited to add: Yes it does, but it loses the formatting.  Oh, and to compound things ... I'm still on XP  oh oh oh oh

Testing a link to this thread.

Not working yet.

url http://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/id/115758-New-Site-Questions-not-to-WebMaster

Not sure if this is the intended behavior, but if I type url before the full http link, then it's displaying as a link.

We have to crawl all existing posts and activate hyperlinks before we can turn it on for new posts.   It's coming.

I've also heard that MS is still supporting XP, as there are quite a few applications in the corporate world for which no updated program exists.

There is a level of very costly support that corps can buy to still get some critical security patches. However, I think that's just asinine. People get going and update your stuff, at least to Win 7.

My company is one of them. We're migrating to Windows 8, but a lot of our internal systems would not work on Win8 and had to be reconfigured or actually rewritten in some cases. I'm pretty sure the custom support is a gap measure, not a long term answer.

Some thoughts:

  • Do you have a different e-mail address for the other user name?  If so, check there for a second e-mail that may have been sent for the user name you now want to use. Note:  You may need to check your spam folder(s).If that doesn't work, use the request new password form.
  • See if the system recognizes the user ID you want to use.  If it does, request a new password.  If it doesn't, look to see if the user name you want to use contains one or more spaces, then try filling in the space(s) with an _. Example user_name.
  • If the system still doesn't recognize the user name you want to use, try using the new user form and see if you can request a new account under the name you want to use.
  •  If none of that works, you may have to check with the administrator to see if the user name you want to use has been banned.

Edited to add:  I can't seem to format at all in with the new software (using XP).  Able to format in Chrome

marksierra:  I'm using XP too and had the same problem you did with formatting.  Not sure what the fix is but I will see if I can find one. ETA:  Formatting buttons don't work in XP.  Quote button works but doesn't show as quote box.

I thought I had the same problem. It turned out that I got an automated message telling me how to log in to my never-used login. I got a human-sent message telling me how to log in as Tom_Reingold. So if you request or wait, you can get your preferred login to work again.

Joan, you can download and use a modern browser, like chrome or firefox and those buttons will all work. This is not an XP issue, but an OLD InternetExplorer issue. Current versions of IE are working just fine.
