Navigating the world of inpatient eating disorder programs and phps

So starting in August, our daughter decided she was going to lessen the amount she ate.  Unfortunately, she couldn't stop herself.   One night,  this brave teen came to me and asked for help.  Over the course of a few weeks after that despite working with the pediatrician, she ended up in Overlook as her heart rate got too low as did her bp.  She is getting medically better but now the real work begins.  She is being recommended for an inpatient program or possibly a php.  Anyone know the difference besides the sleeping over part?  Does an inpatient have more success?  It seems there are only 2 inpatient in NJ  (RWJ-Somerset, one in Plainfield/) but quite a few php programs.  Has anyone had good or bad experiences with a NJ inpatient or particular php program?  Also, how did your teen handle school?  So much to learn and so little time to learn it before we have to decide early next week.  Thanks for your advice in advance MOL.

I am a local psychotherapist.  I'd be happy to talk with you about your daughter.  I would go with the recommendations of her doctors at Overlook as to whether an in patient or partial hospital would be best.  I have heard good things about the RWJ-Somerset program.  She could then "graduate" to a PHP.

I know how difficult this can be.

Previously on this board, people have highly recommended the eating disorders inpatient program of Weill Cornell in Westchester County. Likely they will have a couple of hours of time set aside each day to work on assignments provided by school. Also have heard good things about High Focus—outpatient programs.

Avoid Genpsych like the plague.
