Most overrated band in rock history archived

To avoid intruding on the Who thread . . .

It's a tie: Steely Dan and Talking Heads.

I hope we've all learned something here.

Damn, I always thought it was The Eagles.

Steely Dan? Listen to their solo stuff if you can't yet grasp the briliance.

Eagles is appropriate. How about Van Halen?

And, ducking for cover, if they count as "rock," the Beatles don't hold up very well.

And here I thought it was U2.

Are U2 still considered as a highly rated band? I personally like their early stuff just enough, hated Rattle and Hum, would put Achtung, Baby in my top 10 albums list and think they've been boring since Pop.

I mean if we're really talking that level of overrated band, then I'd like to offer The Red Hot Chili Peppers. And I used to HEART RCHP.

Love talking heads... I have to agree, the Beatles... (ducking... )

Nah, yer all wrong... Remember Asia?

If you think those two are overrated, I'd be interested to know which bands you like, @DaveSchmidt!

PS The new Donald Fagen album is pretty good.

I'm a slightly bigger fan than Ridski, and, as he notes, "Achtung Baby" is too good to be denied. Amazing tour de force, cover to cover.

From therein, one of my all-time favorite songs:

I think there is a difference between overrated and overplayed...a lot of really good music I cant stand to hear much of the time because its been overplayed. And maybe "Burning Down The House" and "Reelin' In The Years" are overplayed but "The Book I Read" or "The Great Curve" or "I ZImbra" arent, and "Chain Lightening" and "Home At Last" and "Dr. Wu" arent.

The Eagles were/are incredible! The musicians, harmonies, songs, etc. The answer is Bon Jovi, RHCP, and Springsteen.

I'll listen to Reelin in the Years over and over to hear the great intro guitar solo any day. As I recall Pete Townsend said it was a fave of his.

Prob my fave from Dave's great link to the entire movie:

Rolling Bones (they really have to hang it up, they remind me of creepy old uncles now), Beatles (mind-numbing repetitiveness), U2 (lead singer thinks he's a God, and he still hasn't found what he's looking for), and Springsteen (like titanium nails on a chalkboard).

There are more, but that's a good start.

I never understood why people went crazy over Rush

maybe this should be titled "Popular Bands that You Don't Get"

Talking Heads? No way! "Remain in light" is an insanely amazing album.

Most overrated band is Nirvana, followed by The Doors.

Im surprised Ted Nugent hasnt gotten an overrated vote, for his politics alone.
