Miss America CEO Offers Public Apology to Vanessa Williams

I don't like the Miss America contest, but I was thrilled when Vanessa Williams won. I was living in Kentucky at the time, working at a school and surrounded by several Kim Davis clones. They were not comfortable with having a black Miss America and I remember one quoting her husband loudly as saying, "Couldn't they find a more attractive white girl? What's wrong with them?" Lots of laughing.

So I was sad to hear when she resigned, and it was something I stuck with me, but perhaps that fueled her to greater sucess in the end. And now she gets an awesome public apology.

Makes me miss the days when a scandal was a woman posing nude for pictures in an adult magazine.

Can't argue with that. *sigh*

What I meant is that it seems that the bar for scandalous behavior seems to be ever higher with people doing more and more bizarre things. On the plus side, I am getting better at tuning out some characters like Miley Cyrus.

I don't believe this was anything more than a ploy to get ratings. After all these years, someone got the bright idea to ask her back and what a ratings booster this would be. Then came the negotiations and the day before the pageant they hadn't come to terms over the "apology" -- they thought she would apologize and she thought they would apologize. http://www.tmz.com/2015/09/11/vanessa-williams-miss-america-officials-nude-pictures-apology/

Who know what happened for real, but I thought the whole thing was phony and I don't think the Miss America corporation is so kindhearted or contrite over their past actions.

Do you think that boosted ratings?

Definitely. People aren't watching beauty pageants like they used to. They needed a hook to get people to tune in and this was it.

I know what you meant. I was agreeing, and noting that it is distressing that the bar keeps creeping higher and higher.

I'm glad she got something since she is one of the few memorable contestants from that pagent. Usually they embarrass themselves more by speaking then any nude photos would.
