Michelle Obama plays the reverse race card archived

This has become something of a tick among Democrats and the left. But it seems as if it is getting pulled out earlier and earlier in the process.

"First lady Michelle Obama is challenging assertions she's forcefully imposed her will on White House aides, saying she's tired of people portraying her as "some kind of angry black woman."

Assertions I have seen portray her as angry. Not angry and “black.”

While I agree that I haven't seen anyone call her an "angry black woman," I don't see how this is the "reverse race card." It's the straight up race card.

CBS, not Fox.

And she is reacting to a book by a New York Times reporter.

ETA: That she hasn't read.

And CBS appoints that muckraker reporter, Oprah's BFF Gayle King, to do the interview.

It's an interview with the First Lady. However accomplished she may or may not be, those are almost always fluff pieces.

I did a search for Woodward and Bernstein's sordid grilling of Pat Nixon back in 1971, but I couldn't find it.

I think about the only thing Pat Nixon did was try and not be photographed smoking; she was a pretty behind the scenes First Lady, unlike our 'modern' First Ladies, who are much more involved.

It's not exactly a "modern" phenomena. Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson -- all had causes they promoted.

And let's not even talk about Edith Wilson!

Bunch o angry white b*tches.

Well, they can't all be Edith Wilsons, can they?

ETA: I didn't even SEE Tom's post up there!

Michelle needs to understand that the portrayal is not because she's black, it's because her husband is a Democrat.

doesn't she know that Democratic men are effete pansies and their wives are ball-breaking harpies?

know your meme, Michelle.

I think it's just her Spock eyebrows.

It wasn't a Fox News reporter that wrote the book, it was a NYTimes staffer, though.

Yes, but the meme has been out there since before the 2008 election. Remember the flack about her undergrad writing?

a couple of points. first and most important, is that by definition a meme permeates the entire culture. so it not being the exlcusive property of one outlet like Fox is exactly the point.

second, the emasculating harpy bitch Democratic woman meme has been pushed the hardest at the NYT itself. Maureen Dowd has written dozens (maybe hundreds) of columns with that theme going back to when the Clintons first emerged from Little Rock.

A little "right-wing humor" -

Yeesh...what a first lady to look up to. I thought they were about change, I do recall Obama saying that through out his run. It is pulling the race card, but on herself. So much for them being in the 21st century, not the kind of woman I would look up to. Very dignified....suuuurrree!
So much for change...

Yes, it's sort of a specialty of hers, isn't it?

I'm honestly surprised that she treads pretty lightly around Michele Obama.

Because Michelle Obama would beat the ***** out of her of course.

Well, I didn't want to say it, but thanks Ridski. I didn't want to be known as calling her "the angry, black woman" ;-) tahe, hee.

Well to be fair, I'm not black, nor a woman, and far from an emotional person. But something about Maureen O'Dowd makes me want to beat the ***** out of her, so maybe this one's got nothing to do with the stereotype.

that's a reaction that a lot of people have to MoDo

I Love me some MoDo!

If people wouldn't tip-toe around the Obamas so much, perhaps we'd see more of the anger that we all know is hiding beneath the surface. They have it much too easy, IMHO. Such a gentle world they live in!

Thanks to Michelle for showing her sassy self today. Now we can all shake our fingers and say "How's that hopey-changey thing working out for you?" It's so funny! Every time I hear it I practically split a gut.

IN MY OPINION; 90% of the press give the Obama's too much slack BECAUSE they are scared to admit the 1st African American Presidency has been a failure. They are afraid to be labeled racist.... Which seems to be the way with Obama supporters and anyone who opposes him.

I doubt 90% of the press thinks Obama's presidency is a failure. I doubt 90% of any group thinks Obama's presidency is a failure. Therefore, it's impossible that such a fraction gives Obama any slack.

Amen sister! Change my a*$!

I love the whole "failure" theme we hear. Exactly what policy has failed?
