McConnell "Defers" Vote Again

The vote to "repeal and replace" is being postponed due to John McCain's surgery.

Wonder how good McCain's healthcare is.... Also, how many sick days he gets

The vote to take away people's government-supported health care is being delayed while one member receives government-supported health care.

Two more GOP Senators have announced that they will vote NO on the Motion to Proceed. That makes 4 no votes on the Republican side which appears to doom McConnell's latest effort.

But it's all okay, because according to Mike Pence, if we pray more, no one will get sick. Well, maybe the sinners will. And according to his definition, that is a pretty wide swathe of the population.

This is what Trump tweeted last night:

"Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Dems will join in!"

I liked this Tweet:

2009: We need the House
2013: We need the Senate
2015: We need the White House
2017: We need an old priest and a young priest

???? Is it just that I have the flu and can't think, or does that not make much sense?

The last line is a movie reference: the Exorcist (and Dr. Evil in one of the Austin Powers movies).

I thought so. I'm still scratching my head a bit... but then, just now, I think my head's gonna explode LOL

I think it was CNN that said McCain's surgery, if uninsured, would cost $76,000.

Only $76K for brain surgery? Seems low to me considering an ambulance ride alone can run $3-4K for a poor person.

I wonder if this surgery was an emergency.

It was a head-spinning scene in the Exorcist that needed a young priest and an old priest. (So, you were close with the head explode thing.   cheese

I think it's a reference to now that Republicans got everything they wanted (House, Senate, and White House) they need an exorcism (not sure if it's a Trump reference, or all of them).

thank you - I was wondering if there were layers I was missing.

Perhaps a US grassroots version of this Canadian initiative could be an answer??

getting back to McConnell - I am amused at talking heads when they refer to McConnell as some sort of great strategist in bringing bills to the floor.

What, exactly, has he ever successfully shepherded through the Senate to an eventual sign-off by the Prez?

I'm thinking, never.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not underestimating him. He is a master obstructionist and has no qualms taking any action necessary in order to "win".

But wrangling votes? Doing something constructive rather than destructive?

Yeah, not so much. He's certainly no Pelosi, or even a Harry Reid. Hopefully we can count on his "mastery" to torpedo any other major legislation that comes down the pike, like taxes or infrastructure.

I agree about the characterization of McConnell. When people talk about his strategic skills, they really mean his willingness to take actions that his predecessors would have been too embarrassed to take. A brilliant strategist might have found a way to get Gorsuch 60 votes or defeat Merrick Garland's nomination through dealing and persuasion. Instead, he just ignored or rewrote Senate rules and practices.

It's beginning to look like Lucy moving the football away from Charley Brown.

Just like the accolades Paul Ryan receives. In the end they are both flim-flam artists/grifters.
