Marco Rubio just disqualified himself from being President

He said this at the debate last night:  "I just want to say, at least on behalf of me and my family, I thank God all the time it was George W. Bush in the White House on 9/11."

We can't have someone that dumb in the WH.

That was after Trump crossed a Republican line when he said that GWB's invasion of Iraq was a terrible decision and that GWB didn't keep us safe (9/11 happened on his watch).  So, we learned that the Republicans are just fine with some pretty foul things coming out of Trump's mouth, but God forbid that you should speak the truth about GWB and his decision to invade Iraq.

I didn't watch the debate.

Did the audience cheer and applaud that statement?

Yes.  You see, to Republican numbskulls, the San Bernadino lone wolf attack perpetrated by a U.S. citizen born in Chicago and his green card wife, where 14 were killed, and an attack on another continent in Paris, are  concrete evidence of President Obama's failure to keep Americans safe.  However, an attack where 3000 Americans are killed, months after a warning was issued that OBL planned to attack in the U.S. with the aid of hijacked planes, and then an unnecessary war is started against a nation that had nothing to do with that attack, is evidence of how safe we were kept by a Republican administration.

If you watched the debate you would have noticed Rubio got resounding applause when he made that remark and Trump was booed when he attacked GWB.

The Bushes are loved in SC and Trump was speaking to his base. Neither of them is dumb and neither of them was speaking to you.

9/11 is the GOP's equivalent of "Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Absolutely true. Rubio also said something to the effect that thank God Bush not Gore was President on 9-11.

If Rubio is the Republican nominee expect to see clips of that in the Fall.

Well, there we go.

Rubio pandering to the Republican primary voters, the ones who will determine who is going to be the nominee. He's giving them want they want to hear.

Because Rubio doesn't have the same cache as Trump may disqualify him from the race but not the statement itself. Trump says far worse things and people seem to only love him more. Maybe they'll have room in their hearts for Rubio's blunder as well?

Of course he was booed, the audience was stacked with GOP establishment supporters and lobbyist. It was obvious when each candidate was introduced at the beginning of the debate.

And Trump knew it and still attacked W. He was not speaking to that audience, he was addressing his country wide base. He may be many things, but dumb isn't one of them.

BTW, he did not oppose the war in Iraq prior to it being launched. According to Anderson Cooper they are unable to find any opposition by Trump until  2004

2004 looks pretty good in comparison to some of his opponents, who STILL think it was a good idea.

maybe he was posting on MOL under an assumed name in 2002-3

It doesn't look that good when you are first basing your opposition to the war in 2004, because at that time you foresaw  it would destabilize the Mid-East. By that time a lot of people who supported the war had changed their minds.

Reading comprehension problem?  I did watch the debate and I noted in my subsequent post that Rubio received applause when he made that comment.  I made no comment about Trump.  And I beg to differ, Rubio is dumb in my opinion.  I would love to have been the moderator and followed up with a few questions to Rubio after that idiotic comment.  You could then watch his eyes glaze over and he would give a canned and inane response that Obama knows exactly what he is doing.

Who said anything about a reading comprehension problem?

You are entitled to your opinion but I doubt many people would agree that a politician who gets resounding applause by praising someone beloved by the audience and the voters  whom he is addressing, is dumb.

Now he's formed a "Marriage and Family" Advisory board, because he apparently needs advice on marriage and families.  The advisory board is a who’s who’s of anti-LGBT advocates.

Not only is this guy dumb, he's a total loser.  But he played one season of college football at Tarkio College, so he's got my vote!

He's going to rebuild a "vibrant culture of marriage and family."  Finally!  Thank you Marco, for coming to America's rescue!

I know I speak for millions of Americans when I say that I always turn to a politician when I want answers on morality and "values."

Speaking of "the base," SC is also home to lots of military. Don't tell the military that a war was in vain.

Of course, coming from Trump, the comment might gain enough traction to hurt.  That is why the GOP establishment reacted so strongly to his comments.

What's interesting, Trump went up 5% after the Saturday debate. I guess challenging Jeb! about his brother keeping us safe must have struck a chord.

She was not initiating Rubio's hyperbole? That's meaningless gibberish. It means she was not starting or causing Rubio's hyperbole.

There was no reference to Rubio's engaging in hyperbole, only a stream of invective aimed at him. Further, my comment was quoting someone else who took her to task for her propensity to resort to hyperbole so I'm not the only one who saw it that way

You want to continue with your gibberish, be my guest. It isn't worth my time to constantly have to unravel it.

What's unfortunate is that Trump is covered in teflon. What is fortunate is that he will probably take out Cruz. Kind of a Hobson's choice should the GOP win in November.

Well, I meant that she wasn't initiating hyperbole, she was highlighting someone else's hyperbole.  Sorry if the way I wrote it somehow caused you to misunderstand and go directly to snark.  Hope that clears up that it's not gibberish at all.

You're incorrect.  Ms. BettyD cited coverage of Senator Rubio's initiative, and the phrase she highlighted, "rebuilding a vibrant culture of marriage and family", as in Rubio bringing this about, is an excerpt from Senator Rubio's campaign materials.

What you claim to have meant is also BS.

She was not highlighting someone else's hyperbole she was providing her own and I repeat, I am not alone in seeing her comments as such.

Suggest you Google the phrase "rebuilding a vibrant culture of marriage and family".
