Maplewood Station

Why have large white signs with the word PATH been nailed to all sides of the train station?

Is it now a pick up point for PATH buses during the repair/rerouting?  Maybe that's why?

There are buses that go to Port Authority from 7am to 9am every morning during the repairs.

The NJT-provided buses that stop near the train station go directly to the Port Authority. They do not stop at the train station (where the signs have been attached), and they do not drop passengers off at PATH stations. (And there are many separate signs nailed in other places that point the way to the bus stop.)

You understand that PATH refers to Port Authority Trans Hudson?  Is there a better place "near" the train station to indicate that people can get to Port Authority Bus Terminals ( which does not only include what used to be called the "tubes" but also the bus terminals (GWB, Journal Square, and 42nd St.)  What is the complaint exactly?  No it's not pretty.  Yes, it is functional.

It's cool that there are boards on the other platform detailing which trains are now arriving on which platform, but it would be great if it also mentioned the train times for westbound trains on platform 3, as those have been changed, too.

Shouldn't it say "PABT"? I think the buses in SO say that.

Bingo. It's not a question of being pretty by the way. They are NOT functional since there is the PATH and then there is the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Why they would use an acronym even if an accurate one THAT NO ONE USES is one of the mysteries of NJ Transit.

Maybe they're trying to save money and had a lot of extra PATH signs.  At least most people who thought they were going to a PATH train to get into the City would be too upset that they ended up at PABT.

Perhaps they didn't want to be confused with PABST, which was a major player in this area back in the day.   cheese

Amen to Ridski: "It's cool that there are boards on the other platform detailing which trains are now arriving on which platform, but it would be great if it also mentioned the train times for westbound trains on platform 3, as those have been changed, too."

Wendy: I'm always edified by my interactions with you.

@nakaille, the "complaint" is that the signs, which I notice are no longer there, were not functional and in fact were pointlessly confusing (and unsightly, but signage overload at the station is a whole different discussion).

Since you asked, yes, I know what PATH stands for, but that knowledge doesn't serve me as a commuter. The express buses do not stop at the train station, and the "PATH" signs did not point the way to the buses, which are parked on Oakview near Dunnell. Waiting for a bus at any of those four signs would have resulted in disappointment.

There are other signs posted at the edge of Memorial Park that point the way to the buses. (And I would add that there have been pleasant and helpful NJT employees at the station daily.)

Glad I could edify nakaille. grin   I too saw the signs (I think it was yesterday when I took the day off to meet a friend in the city later in the morning). I actually asked the ticket guy about it since I would never have assumed it was referring to the PATH trains and I knew in fact where the buses stop as well just as j_r pointed out.  Glad they're taken down.
