This spring, the Maplewood Memorial Park Conservancy will sponsor a number of events.
May 7, 10 am to 3 pm (rain date May 8) – Painters in the Park: local artists will set up their easels to capture the park’s spring beauty! Artists who wish to participate can email laratomlin.art@gmail.com.
May 14, 10 am to 11 am (rain date May 21) – History Walk through Memorial Park: a short stroll through the park with MMPC members Ginny Kurshan and Susan Newberry to learn about the history of this landmarked park. Meet at the corner of Oakview and Valley St.
DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED:
May – the unveiling of MMPC’s latest project, the Flagpole Hill entryway triangle, and the celebration of the 200th birthday of Frederick Law Olmsted, father of the Olmsted Brothers, one of the park’s designers.
June – Pop-up Demonstration Project along the Valley St. border across from the Municipal Building: a path on the perimeter of the park along Valley St. between Oakview Ave. and the tennis courts would complete the interior walkway through the park. What do you think of the idea? MMPC will be setting up a temporary “path” to get your input.
And if you often find yourself enjoying time in Memorial Park, consider lending your talents to the Maplewood Memorial Park Conservancy, the nonprofit organization that works with the Township of Maplewood to keep this historic land marked park beautiful. From physical tasks such as hands-on gardening work in the park to behind-the-scenes activities like event planning, public outreach, and graphic and technical support, MMPC has a lot to do, and you can make a difference!
