Maplewood Main Library is closed

Due to extensive flood damage, the Main Library at 51 Baker St. is closed and will not reopen to the public before construction begins.

From now until October 4, all holds must be picked up at the Hilton Branch at 1688 Springfield Ave.

Hilton is open today, Sept. 3, from 10-5 and will be open tomorrow, Sept. 4, from 10-5. Masks are required.

Please see below for more information and continue to check their website for updates.

I tried calling Hilton and their phones were not working, likely due to the flooding.  I have a hold at Main and want to find out the procedure for it getting to Hilton now. I sent an email instead to have them contact me. The address is library@maplewoodlibrary.org

It's been my experience that you can go to other libraries in the BCCLS network and take stuff out.

That works for Maplewood which has the Hilton Branch option.  South Orange does not belong to the BCCLs network.

Thank goodness we didn’t get rid of the Hilton branch…

The easiest thing to do is to use the BCCLS catalog through the Maplewood Library website, request a book from any of the libraries, and pick it up in Maplewood at the library (at the Hilton Branch right now).

Terrible news about damage to the main library.
I hope they can recover soon.  How can we support?

They have announced that they will not be reopening the main library before starting the renovations.  Since they already had strategies in place for the planned closure during renovation, those plans are presumably going into effect early.
