Lorena's proper dress?

Going to Lorena's for the first time.  What's the proper dress for men and women?  Nice casual, or something fancier?

Depends on your definition of nice casual - for men, collared shirt, slacks and non-sneaker / non-sandal shoes should be fine.  Although a jacket would class it up a bit.  Dressier (designer but unripped / non-distressed) dark jeans would also be fine.


No need for a suit or tie, but agree with lanky that a jacket/blazer would be appropriate.

For women, no jeans or yoga pants.  The A/C might be on so bring a sweater.

It is a classy place with delicious food - dress up a little and enjoy the experience.

I highly recommend the seafood crepe.  However, it is extremely rich and not for those watching their cholesterol.

The seafood crepe is stupidly good... it was lobster not too long ago, but I think crab now.  Either way I agree you should order it.  And the foie gras.

Anyhoo, I've never not worn a blazer there, and I'm usually (and thankfully) in the majority when doing so.


Don't shoot  me for asking this, but does anyone know first hand if they are accommodating regarding food allergies? Everyone raves about the food, we just celebrated a big anniversary and have a very special bottle of wine. I'd just hate to go and not be able to enjoy too many offerings. (Specifically, gluten allergy.)

I understand there would be menu items (such as the crepe, which sounds wonderful) that I couldn't eat, but I would guess the wait staff would be able to answer questions regarding flour in any sauces, or if fish is sautéed if it's dredged in flour first.


Your best bet is to call them first.  Their menu changes and the chef is fantastic... he may make an accommodation, though I'd have to guess some (most?) dishes would be difficult to change and still preserve what he's doing.


As for gluten there are some that could likely work well, if not already naturally gluten free.


Yes, that is always my first choice, obviously certain dishes (like the crepe) would have gluten and couldn't be swapped out. (Though I've had GF crepes made with buckwheat or rice flour and for me they are fine—I wouldn't expect them to serve GF crepes though). It's really more a knowledge of sauces and if flour is used in preparation of dishes. 


Talk about accommodating. I sent an email with specific questions, and certainly didn't expect a call back on a Friday evening. Humberto himself called back and left a message saying if I made a note on the reservation that I was gluten free, the entire staff would be notified and they even have GF bread. (Which I never expect but it is nice to be able to enjoy on occasion.) 

How wonderful, now I know where we will go to celebrate our anniversary (again). 


@shh -- if the gluten bread is good, find out where they get it from, please!

 While I've never notified them in advance, one of the most impressive things about that place (aside from the amazing food) is how accommodating they are.
