Too late tonight to read the whole article (sorry for responding without reading), but is it possible the disgust reaction is strengthened by "conservative" rhetoric/beliefs? It would be interesting to know (if the authors haven't already checked it out) whether responses of that kind pre-date the person's political bent, or come after....
When you get to the end, you'll see this study summary that seems to link disgust to a genetic component:
Taste receptors, they knew, are concentrated in fungiform papillae—those spongy little bumps on your tongue. The greater the density of papillae, the more acute your taste. [Some study procedures were described]... The degree to which subjects’ views tilted to the right was, they found, in direct proportion to the density of papillae on their tongue.
Thanks, sprout. Interesting, and very weird. Some just born fussy/cranky.... Though i'm still looking at my various relatives and acquaintances and seeing a lot of social environment and life experience going into this stuff, at least in my tiny n.

After many years on MOL, I think this is the first thread I've started in the S:AP forum (and possibly my last).
I found this summary of a set of studies interesting. It made me wonder: If there is a genetic predisposition to becoming liberal/conservative, then how much potential is there for changing anyone's point of view?
