Legal weed is here! Finally!

https://www.nj.com/marijuana/2022/04/nj-recreational-weed-sales-can-begin-soon-as-panel-takes-historic-vote.html

Looks like NJ's 7 medical dispensaries will soon convert to regular retail, possibly by the end of the month.

Took'em long enough.

I had started a thread some time back about the new legal ground rules that are coming but I haven't had time to finish putting up the rest of the slides. Some interesting social justice issues that will probably be circumvented sooner or later.

Nothing new under the sun.

As I understand it, they want to make sure that the "recreational" users don't inhibit the access and supply for patients who have been relying on the dispensaries.

yes, that's one of the explicitly stated regulations

In that case, someone better get busy and open a doughnut shop in the former Papa John's on the other side of the parking lot.

I was thinking that the BK needs to start hiring more people.
I hope this adds to HLS’ success though

In NY it seems the peddlers have taken it upon themselves to forego the licensing part. WSQ is an open air flea market for cannabis products. Even more so than at any other time in its history  oh oh

Check out Maplewood Township Committee Meetings under Maplewood Specific., April 8. At the end you meet the people involved in Maplewood's 2 new marujuana places ,one on Springfield Ave and one on Highland Place. Very interesting. Seems like it's going to bring too many people to town.

Doesn't that depend on the retail price? California vendors are on the balls of their **** because they can't sell what they grow.

As I understand the tax structure, we in NJ will be paying less than the CA folks who are buying on the true legal market versus the gray market

4/20 is "Cannabis Eve".

I am so excited for this! I haven't smoked/ingested pot in a long time, and I was never really worried about its legality, but so many people have to be, especially POC. I am going to be visiting a dispensary very soon!

I stocked up on recent trips to MA and MI so I think I'm going to wait to hit a NJ shop until after it calms down. I imagine the first few weeks the shops will be very busy.

Likely so. I can wait a few weeks...

is there any talk of stores expanding their menus with so many more customers...especially edible flavors

According to the rules, this is what the stores are able to offer right now (Final Rule Summary.pdf (nj.gov)) -

[T]he types of products initially authorized by the Commission:
• Cannabis concentrates including extracts and resins;
• Vaporized formulations;
• Drops, tinctures, and other sublabial and sublingual forms;
• Oral lozenges and other buccal forms;
• Edibles that can only be in the form of syrups, pills, tablets, capsules, and chewables; and
• Topical formulations and transdermal forms

seems like a robust line-up to me.

"In Maplewood, where a medical-marijuana dispensary that operates on a main street was preparing to open to all adults, the mayor, Dean Dafis, said he held a meeting Thursday afternoon to finalize a crowd-control strategy."

Legal Marijuana Sales Will Start Next Thursday in New Jersey - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

I haven't seen this much excitement for a new product in Maplewood since "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" went on sale at the bookstore in the village.

looks like only 6 shops will be open initially.

Will one of the 6 be the one in Maplewood on Springfield?

looking at the different stores (even ones not opening to the general public yet), at best there are about a half dozen flavors/varieties of edibles.....all fruit flavored.  my question is if there is any talk that there will be more flavors/varieties to choose from at some point.  for example, anyone talking about doubling the flavors....adding chocolate/vanilla/mint, etc

the document in the earlier post does mention cannabis flower. Not sure why it's not in that list of products.

cannabis items will be packaged in fully enclosed child-resistant packaging and will be labeled with
information and any warnings required by law, a summary of the product testing results, any ingredients
used in cultivation or production of the cannabis item, and the serving size. For cannabis flower, in addition
to the potency from the test results, labels will note whether the flower is high-, moderate-, or low-THC, and whether it is high-, moderate-, or low-CBD, consistent with its chemotype
