Leaf filter over gutters - worth it?

I'm interested in getting filters installed over my gutters to avoid having to get them cleaned a couple of times a year.  It seems like it would pay for itself over the course of 5-10 years.  Does anyone have any experience with these gutter systems?  The one I currently got a quote for was Leaf Filter, although I'd imagine there's a bunch of companies that do this.  I've found mostly positive reviews of the company and product online, but also a couple of stinkers.

Thanks in advance for feedback!

I once inquired about this and it was going to take MANY years to pay out the difference in cost of the gutter covers vs semi-annual gutter cleaning.  Perhaps that was just my house, I don't recall, but we decided just to keep getting the gutters cleaned.  Plus leaves can block up the filters in some cases, from what I hear.

Thanks sac.  That's very helpful.

Our gutters have a screen-type filter.  It was there when we moved in, so I know -0- about the cost.  They seem very effective:  we have been here 10+ years, have never had the gutters cleaned, nor done it ourselves.  There have been no problems, so very happy!

It's possible the gutters were cleaned or partly cleaned at some point when they were repaired/replaced.  There are plenty of trees around, too.  The only thing that I've been aware of is that the maple seeds with "wings" sometimes stand up in the screens; but then later they're gone....

mjc -- that's terrific.  The installation I'm considering is the screen-type (stainless steel mesh).  The cost isn't outrageous for my house (~$2,100) but more than I wanted to spend this season.  Many thanks for your response.  The main thing I'm not sure of is the long-term durability.  My gutters get really clogged up twice a year and not having to get them cleaned would be great.

we have screens on our gutters, they are similar to the smart screen filters, aluminum with little holes, I believe the cost was round $5 per linear feet.... we had them about 5 years and never had our gutters cleaned.

Many thanks for the input, T3.   I have a local person coming to give an estimate as well.

I rinsed mine off over last weekend, but mostly because I have trees that hang over the roof and even with the mesh, leaves and seeds and twigs and whatnot still stick to it, mostly at the back. It's still much easier and faster than when I had open gutters and me and my neighbor had to go up on the roof with a leaf blower.
