Leaf Collection - NOT!!!

I guess I can wait for a really big wind storm to come and move the leaves into the thin air.  It seems this would be a faster solution than what's going on.  I am very considerate of the changing weather and the late dropping leaves, however, there has been ample time for leaf collection and the make up of broken promises from our leaf collectors of Maplewood, even for the leaves that are flying off of the recycle truck on the way to the recycle center. (during scheduled pick ups)

With all the extensions and calls to recycle and the town, nothing has been done.  What's going on....does it have to do with the new recycle center hours?  Is there not enough time in the day?  Please keep us posted and feel free to take my leaves.

FWIW: I did see the leaf trucks going down our street this week. And here is the Leaf Collection notice update from the Twp site:

Leaf Collection Notice

POSTED ON: DECEMBER 21, 2017 - 5:00PM

Attention Maplewood Residents,

Please be advised that the last possible day to place leaves curbside will be Friday, December 22nd.  The Department of Public Works will continue to collect leaves after Friday, the 22nd, but please note that any property owners placing leaves curbside after this date will be subject to a warning notice from the Township’s Code Enforcement Department.  Property owners who place leaves curbside after Friday, December 22nd, and refuse to remove them may be subject to a fine or summons.

Yes....I saw this notice and have followed up every other day this week only to be advised that by yesterday (12/29/17) all the leaves would be collected.   I haven't seen a truck all week.  They seem to have a new crew doing this job and I'm not sure they are as motivated as other crews of the past.  The couple of times during scheduled pick ups, they left so much leaves behind and made such a mess.  Even when we have moved the leaves away from the curb for easy p/u.

It's a little upsetting as so much time is being focused on new development and not existing ones.

Crews I saw today were sanding roadways to keep our roads safe for drivers.  We have a small DPW staff which is stretched very thin and is pulled in all directions.  In my neighborhood we have trees that still have not dropped their leaves yet.  Those leaves that do not fall in the street of their own accord, can be raked into foundation planting and beds to provide mulch over the winter.

The last pickup of leaves at our house was the 22nd.

Given the warning not to put leaves out after the 22nd and that we not seen any DPW trucks near us, I suggested to hubster that he take a photo of the leaves so we would have proof they were out before the deadline.  He did.  The photo he took shows a pile of leaves---nothing else that would demonstrate that they were in the street by our house.  oh oh

While I've spoken directly to the DPW on a few occasions he advised that they would have everything done by the 29th of December.  I understand the pressure stemming from mother nature, I just don't want a ticket as a result.  Additionally, the pick up process (when in action) has to be better.  They leave so much behind.  I will pack my patience and add this to my 2018 resolutions.

The leaves in our neighborhood were picked up on the 23rd.

Hmmm...I guess they will be picking up leaves and snow together.  oh oh
