Leaf blowers: There are skin diseases I prefer

Then hear this: We are coming for the leaf blowers. Their time is done.

Woe to all who stand in the way of this our holy mission.

Cavil, carp, mock as you will. These are but airy words that will soon be drowned out by the sounds of Makitas and Husqvarnas being crushed, exploded and axed into flinders.

Good luck with that.

Flinders, huh? Nice. Good word.

Show me one post where I said I was in favor of leaf blowers.

Just curious - are there any landscaping companies who are offering a leaf blower-free fall cleanup plan?

Second that.  Also enjoyed "bolus."  Would love to apply some kind of word-DNA test to moammar's reading history and occupation.

Fair enough.  It's amazing that you have so much time and energy to dedicate to this movement, what with so many issues (voter suppression, pay inequality, lousy pandemic response, abuses by police, racial inequity, etc) that you are no doubt already raging against.  How do you do it?

By all evidence, euphoniously.

They should offer as an option. But it would cost more considering the extra labor time needed. There could be the regular $100 blower cleanup and the "silent" $250 rake cleanup.

How many requesting a ban of leaf blowers are willing to put their money where their mouths are? Willing to pay for the expensive plan?

How many requesting a ban of leaf blowers pay for any leaf blowing at all?

Not me.  I take care of my own leaves. Restrict to battery operated, between 9 and 5.

 The power of pure hate.

Theory: Moammar is GOPMan.

Both have a certain way with words...

Many residents strongly oppose gas powered leaf blowers. We need to keep contacting members of the Township Committee and get them to extend the ban to all year. They will take notice if they hear from lots of people.

The blowers are back, and with them, my dangerous blood pressure.

I counted about 15 laggard leaves on my neighbor's lawn. What else is there to do but open up a barrage of deafening two-stroke power against them? They must be punished, along with everyone else in earshot. Why stop with blowing them? Let's idle a 757 nearby. Maybe we could crank up heavy metal on repeat, trying to flush out the leaves like Manuel Noriega holed up in Panama.

Perhaps I should sell this place to some unsuspecting Brooklynite and live somewhere quiet, like a sheet-metal shop, or dangling in a hammock above the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

Our mayor and council must find a solution for this open, suppurating sore on Maplewood's body politic. Until then, the screeds will continue.

I haven't heard of any or seen any leaf-blower free crews this fall.

The other day I was sitting at home when I heard this chill inducing sound:  SCRAPE, SCRAPE, SCRAPE.  It was like nails on a chalk board. It stopped after about 10 minutes so I went back to what I was doing.  Sure enough, it returned.  It seemed to go on forever: SCRAPE, SCRAPE, SCRAPE.  I looked out the window to try to figure out what this godawful noise was.  What I saw confounded me.  One of my neighbors had some kind of metal prong-contraption attached to a long wooden stick and he appeared to be combing his lawn.  Can you imagine that; combing his lawn in the middle of the day.  The F#$K?  I tried to get his attention to find out what he was doing, and why he needed to do it now.  He just seemed to ignore me and continued combing his lawn.

So I still have no idea what the hell he was doing, but I can tell you this:  I for damn sure won't be clearing HIS driveway tomorrow and Thursday with my snowblower.

When my neighbor told me he was using a lawn comb, I said no wonder he smelled so good.

Hello folks, moved out of childhood home in Maplewood years ago when most people weren’t so obsessed with “ideal” lawns and more rakes were in use.  Maybe this suggestion is too foreign to consider. However, modern mulching mowers can really just chop up all your leaves into tiny bits that will completely disappear and feed the lawn next Spring. No need to do any raking at all.

... which usually lasts for all of a couple of minutes.

Recently, my next door neighbors' landscaper crew spent an HOUR blowing leaves around their yard that is probably 75'x150' at most.  Much more than a couple of minutes and rather close to my windows.

I know that the landscapers plead that it takes too long to rake and they can't get to all of their customers, too costly etc.  However, typically they come once a week for the entire fall leaf season (in violation of the town leaf schedule BTW.)  They could charge the same fee for the season and do it with rakes and brooms if they would just schedule each home for only one or two visits during that period, obeying the schedules in the various sections of the towns and achieving the same end result.  I would pay for that service, but I refuse to pay for the current system.

I have been doing this for years. It is the best solution if you mow your own lawn.

Why can't landscapers have those kinds of mowers and offer that service.  I would gladly pay for that.  We DIY ours but we aren't getting any younger and will need to hire it out at some point.
