KitchenAid stand mixer repair shop needed

My KitchenAid K45 stand mixer died.  Considering that this thing has lasted well over 40 years I would say that it was built quite well and is worth repairing rather than replacing.  However, I am having trouble finding any place that services SMALL appliances.  Google and the online yellow pages have not been helpful, all results are for MAJOR appliance repair shops, even when I specify in my search that I am looking for SMALL appliance repair.

Do you know of any SMALL appliance repair shops that can diagnose and repair my stand mixer?

I would try calling One Stop Repair in Maplewood. His website says that they repair Lamps, Vacuums and Vintange Equipment.

One Stop Repair did a great job of replacing the cord on our mixer when it was melted in an unfortunate kitchen accident.  Cost for that (smaller) job was about $40, but mixer was fairly new and well worth it.

It's actually the only authorized KitchenAid repair place in NJ, I'm pretty sure!! It's a schlep but they do a good job.

I dropped it off in Denville today.  I have my fingers crossed that it can be fixed.  Sure, it is avocado green from the late 60's, but it has worked so well for so long that I would hate to have to replace it if I didn't have to.

That it's avocado green and from the late 60s is exactly why I'd be getting it fixed instead of replaced.  Good luck.

It has been repaired and is ready to be picked up.  Now I'll have to make something to see how well it works.  I'll be sure to update then.

I brought my broken Kitchen Aid mixer to One Stop and he couldn't repair, off to Denville.  Thanks for the tip

Glad they were able to fix it.

I picked it up today, the total was $24.68 (more on that later).

I haven't had a chance to test it yet as I put the stand mixer in my trunk and forgot to take it out when dropping my car off for service and repairs.

I asked the man if he would be able to repair anything that broke on the mixer in the future and his honest reply was "Maybe."  It seems that when Whirlpool purchased KitchenAid they changed some parts. As this was 35 years ago the original parts are obviously no longer being made.  So if one of the generic parts that wasn't changed breaks, he can repair/replace it.  If one of the parts that Whirlpool changed out in the newer models changed then I am SOL on the repair.  Obviously if your KitchenAid is one of the Whirlpool models (i.e. less than 35 years old) then he should be able to get the parts.

About the price, they charge $10 to look at the item.  If you decide to go with the repair then they will credit that $10 towards the total bill.  I don't blame them at all for this policy.   Since so many small appliances are now made to be thrown away I'm sure they had a few too many people take up their time taking apart appliances to figure out what was wrong and then decide to not repair it but rather toss it and buy a new one.  When one or two customers do that it is an annoyance, but if too many people do so it wastes too much of their time that they could be spending on repairs for paying customers.  So today when I picked up my mixer I only had to hand over $14.68 since I had already paid the $10 deposit.

I made a sponge cake with avocado "butter"cream icing last night, the mixer worked beautifully.
