Kimmel/Christie fat jokes crossed the line. archived

Low blows during the WH correspondence dinner are obviously the name of the game but his pokes at the governor were insensitive to the millions of Americans who suffer from obesity.

Oh stop. I like Christie overall but he's fat, he knows he's fat, and being fat is not, except in very narrow circumstances, a disability....or more precisely, if a disability it be it is one with a cure that is in the hands of the victim.

It's not like he ripped on David Paterson for his vision problems. Even the biggest Christie partisan is going to tell you the dude needs to hit the treadmill a bit harder.

Maybe he should have sat stonefaced like Donald Trump to send the message out that fat jokes aren't kosher, rather than obviously laughing his ass off.

Point of fact....I've seen video of him since the correspondents dinner.....the ass is still there.

Whoops! Line crossed!

who amongst us hasn't been mocked by Jimmy Kimmel?

We live in the Olive Garden State, so yes: all of us have.

Well, at least Obama didn't joke about murdering people with drones, like he did in the past.

He was too busy preparing his Chihuahua enchiladas.

I give Kimmel a pass, he cracked a few funny ones on Obama too-'cover your ears, if that's humanely possible' being one.

As Christie has since said: "When you have Sophia Vergara sitting next to to you to console you, you don't care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel said."

At least Christie stayed awake at a public event this time......

Fail. He already explained that he had his eyes closed during a spiritual song. He stated that he would never, ever, be able to fall asleep at a Bruce Springsteen concert.

My wife fell asleep at a Nine Inch Nails concert. Granted we were jetlagged and way up in the top of MSG, but it still happened.

If I was at a Springsteen gig, Id probably try to get 40 minutes or so while he introduces Jersey Girl.

Because his "witness" is so reliable.
Fat Christie, asleep at the wheel.

How bitter! You must be so upset your man, the billion dollar plus thief, lost! grin)

You seem to believe it is really important to defend the Governor on this topic.

Do you have any more evidence that Governor Christie would never fall asleep at a Springsteen show? I mean, that's what I would base my vote on if I could vote and I really need to know that he would never, ever definitely not in a month of Sundays fall asleep at a Springsteen show, because that's really the worst possible thing a Governor could ever, ever do.

One post, just ONE, that doesn't make me laugh. Is that too much to ask.

No, I find it's important to get the facts right. As much as he opposes Bruce's faux populist message, he's one of his (sic) biggest fans. I find that admirable that he can talk so well about someone whose politics he so opposes. Makes him even more likable, no?

Can't vote so neither of them are "My man" and neither of them would be even if I could.
I just find it funny that Christie doesn't own his actions. He got snapped in public sleeping, first tried to call it invasion of privacy, then tried to curry favour by declaring his undying fandom for Bruce. He would have been better being honest and saying it's tough to stay awake when you run a state.

It was reported that Christie cleaned his plate, and then finished off his chocolate mousse while Vergara just picked at hers. I wondered if Christie asked Vergara if he could have it.

Except he wasn't sleeping, something you can't seem to wrap your head around. He was snapped with his eyes closed. Do you ever close your eyes when NOT sleeping? I do.

You see his not sleeping, I see him sleeping. FYI the guy that snapped the pic and posted it to twitter thinks he's sleeping for what it's worth.
You seem to be all about supporting believing the Christie message so yay for you. I just think it's funny he said this
"It was a great show at the Garden that night and I enjoyed every minute of it and Gramiccioni enjoyed it too. She had a great time. I was there with my brother and my two oldest children. Mary Pat took the night off.”

That last sentence is where the Governor veered off the tracks. After he said his wife took the night off, Mary Pat who was sitting in the front row said, “No, I didn’t.”

Christie asked, “Were you at the Garden?” Oh, you were there. You were there. You took the night off in Philadelphia. Right okay.”

As reporters and others in attendance laughed, the Governor went into spin mode to try and do a little damage control, “Well she took one night off. Come on. It was dark. What did I know? I was a little tired. We were all there. We had a great time and we didn’t fall asleep.”

The man doesn't even know if his own wife was there or not and we're expected to believe he's a "spiritual Bruce" fan.
Ok then Mr Gov. keep spinning that line.

He's been to hundreds of Springsteen concerts, I'm sure it's easy for him to mix up that specific night.

You hate the guy so much you're making a huge deal about a non-story, where he gives props to a political opponent? Life in MOL! Be fair and inclusive, except about any Republican!

Oh stop! The comments were directed at Christie and nothing more. And what does Christie do? Laughs it off as he usually does. Its fair game; he's a public figure and he can take it. Didn’t seem to bother him anyways since he had Sofia Vergara sitting next to him.

I don't remember him running against Springsteen. Is Springsteen running in the next election? Maybe I'll apply for citizenship so I can vote for him. It'll be easier than moving to Indiana to vote for John Mellencamp.

That fat ass nodded off at a Springsteen concert? I missed that news. What a buffoon!

For the record if it was ANY politician I'd find this story amusing because of the response at the press concert. In typical politician fashion he, like members of all parties, refuses to own his actions.
That's where the humour is for me, not in his affiliation to any one party.
FYI this how he should have handled it IMO
"Yeah, I think The Boss has really lost something since the untimely death of Clarence and/or Danny, and at one point I just got bored. But it’s cool. I won’t be demanding my money back."

I've seen Christie in person, at the Short Hills Mall. The man has a serious weight problem. I'd never put it to him the way Kimmel did, and generally I think that "fat jokes" look mean in a "kicking down" kind of way.

But seriously, I hope that he loses the weight. Leave aside all of the superficial silliness; it's a serious health risk.

It was considered such a non story (and in fact false) it didn't make it to your usual looney left news feeds.
