It's kind of vanilla, but I'd give an Amazon certificate in the amount of a good book or DVD/blu-ray. If s/he is a serious buff, it's likely they already have a book or film you have in mind. "Collectors" generally like choosing what to add to their collection, and getting a duplicate is kind of meaningless.
Of get something from a Barnes & Noble that could easily be exchanged - a DVD of a director such as Abbas Kiarostami, Yasujiro Ozu, Satyajit Ray ... the Hitchcock/Truffaut book, etc.

@apple44 --this is great. Any specific suggestions along these lines?
Maybe A Taste of Cherry (Kiarostami); Tokyo Story or Early Spring (Ozu); Apu Trilogy, Charulata or The Music Room (Ray). There are also boxed sets from Eclipse brand of Criterion such as Late Ray (his later films), Early (Ingmar) Bergman etc. Or as Jeanne Moreau just died, you could do her early work such as Elevator to the Gallows (Louis Malle, director).
A film buff with a huge collection might have these, but they're a little off the beaten path and might be appreciated.
Also, Criterion Collection just released an edition of the French director Robert Bresson's final film, L'argent.

Back when I was a serious movie-goer, I enjoyed reading compilations of reviews, especially Pauline Kael. A few favorites:
